Has anyone tried using a small compressed air type filter/separator
housing/filter for the CCV?

I want to stop the oily build-up, but don't want to go with the
EHM, or the Provent, just thought a 1/2" or 3/4" compressed air separator may work.

The ones I am used to are about 2" in diameter, about 3-4" long,
with a drain on the bottom.

They are designed for decent flow and low restriction.

Just a thought..........

There have been several variants - you can search - most were in the 06-07 time frame
even some build your own versions (PVC pipe fixtures)

They all seem to help - none have the blow off feature on the Provent

I think most folks settled on EHM or Provent -
although no one's mentioned taking off one of the variants.

This looks like a decent set-up. Is there a filter (steel wool, etc) inside or
is it an empty chamber?

As mentioned above there should be a pressure relief valve expecially in areas with winter temperatures below freeezing. The vapor can freeze and clog the system expecially with the filter your proposing.

It has something inside - I'd guess steel wool - but I don't know
you do have to have something for the oil to condense on.

(and yeah the pressure relief is a good idea - not a big issue in Texas - but in colder climates - half of what comes out of the Provent line is water)
