So if I forgo fixing the KJ, what do you think I could get for it by selling it? I am willing to be fair on it and only need a little to pay off the loan. I still do not think I will be able to get the ML320 I want but maybe a GC CRD if I can find one in 4x4. Still not sure I want to get rid of the KJ as it is just about 99% where I wanted it ot be. Only thing I would want out of it is the stereo system as it works with the add on I currently have, the rst would be as is.

I'll give you $1800 for it.

It's about 6-7 times that cost. My OB powerhead refurbished was 3500

I was not commenting about the price, but rather trying to note in a friendly manner your nearly incomprehensible sentence.

Again, for emphasis let me reiterate what you said earlier:

Let me try and clean that up some:
that a deal for that engine. shipping regardless I have I had to I would pull that in a second.

I don't mean to sound like an stupid, it was just one of those moments where what you meant to say and what got typed got lost in translation.

Jinstall,

I believe that your vehicle may be worth about 2 - 3,000 dollars.

No interest in using the 70,000 mile used engine?

$3,000 for the engine and maybe $2,500 in labor for the install, $5,500 moreor less may get you back on the road.

The dealer may even consider performing the work if you ask but at a higher fee.

Anyway... Sorry about the loss.

It's a good find Race tracer! He can repair is CRD for $5000 and get $8000 to $9000 in exchange for is new purchase or just keep it :-) He loose to much if you sold the thing with a broken engine.

But we forgot something.. He dont need the Transmission, the old TCU and is older ECU! Not even the wiring (good for a guy doing a VM swap) This cut the cost about $1000-$1500 selling those parts ?

I'd get a second opinion before I gave up on it. I doubt your engine is ruined. Put a new turbo on it, fill it up with oil and move on.

Yes true, the extra parts that the used engine comes with can be sold for a profit.

Selling the extra parts will bring the cost down to around $3,500.

Jinstall, what would help the members of this forum is to get a recap from you of what happened to your Rig prior to the catastrophy so that we can be aware of what to look for in case something like this should begin to happen to us.

As you know, many members on this forum assist each other when the need arises, as they have for you.

What we would like know is what happened? Can you take some time out to tell us?

Racertracer.

He said it was knocking then came to a stop, in either of your cases I would have pulled over and turned off the key ASAP. Trying to go any where with oil leaking out of an engine is a bad thing.

Were you sitting in the passenger seat at the time? That was what I did, you just left off the part of pulling off the exit ramp.

Sorry if I misread you, I read you kept driving it up a long grade with smoking and low power problems until you got to an exit ramp? At least that is how I construed it? I have no clue how long the grade was or how close you were to an exit?

jinstall wrote:
Going up a long grade on I40 it started smoking heavily and then loosing power. I got a ready to exit and then the engine started knocking, I coasted up the exit ramp and just off tot he side when the engine choked itself out. I check the oil and it was empty. It was at the dealer the day before to be checked and they said it would be good to get back home, well it only made it 60 miles before it died.

BTW the other poster that did not blow his engine, said he drove 10 miles, so I was speaking for both of you. Any ways, sorry about your loss.

did it grenade? put parts through the pan or block..if not..your engine might just need new bearings and cylinder work. not a total loss. grenaded..sorry..

have any pictures? up dates?

it would be really nice to know what happened so the rest of us can watch for signs before it happens..

I'm sure this is a dumb question..but did the oil drain plug fall out?

i'm just trying to learn everything I can to keep my wife jeep running to 400kmiles or more..:)

anyone thought about dropping in a VW TDI engine? a Cummins 4bt?

No oil came out of the engine except what is in the exhaust system and the intake. As it started blowing smoke heavily out the tailpipe I pulled onto the exit ramp, it started knocking and then I turned it off.

The dealer told me they tried to start it several times and I asked them what part of "catostrophic engine failer" they did not understand. So the dealer said it needs a new engine(no doo doo? really?) and there are none in the US. There are in fact 9 on order though.

did it grenade? No but it is knocking loudly.
put parts through the pan or block..if not..your engine might just need new bearings and cylinder work. not a total loss. grenaded..sorry.. No way I want it all new inside.

have any pictures? up dates? No, it is 550 miles form my house I just got into town today.

it would be really nice to know what happened so the rest of us can watch for signs before it happens.. Turbo oil seal went. Another dealer told me it was ok to drive back to DC and it only made it 60 miles.

I'm sure this is a dumb question..but did the oil drain plug fall out? No there is no longer a oil drain plug to fall out.

i'm just trying to learn everything I can to keep my wife jeep running to 400kmiles or more..:) Find someone that does not work for a dealer.

anyone thought about dropping in a VW TDI engine? a Cummins 4bt? I have been told they are completely different. if you want a VW then buy a VW.

I agree that you want a completely new engine internally... You say the dealer told you that they have tried starting it several times now? You might want to get a lawyer, especially if this is the dealer that also said you could drive it home with a blown turbo seal. By even attempting to start it without oil in the engine's passages... They have just done even more damage to it, possibly it DIDN'T need a complete replacement before, now it almost certainly does. They need to buy you the engine.

They can blame it on "pre-exsisting" damage. Same way the dealer that incorrectly installed the TB can now get out of paying. The deale that told me it was "safe to drive to DC" was in Waynesville, NC not the one in Morganton. I already told that one I would speak to them again through a lawyer.

I might just go get it bring it home and park it at the house and buy a $10,000 car.

Hmmmm just found this, wonder what damage could have been done on this engine wise? Get some Limited parts as well from it for $5500 http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?c ... n&engine=4 Cylinder&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=0&transmission=Automatic&first_record=126&default_sort=newsortbyprice_DESC&address=20112&sort_type=priceDESC&awsp=false&make=JEEP&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=152&standard=false
