I agree that you want a completely new engine internally... You say the dealer told you that they have tried starting it several times now? You might want to get a lawyer, especially if this is the dealer that also said you could drive it home with a blown turbo seal. By even attempting to start it without oil in the engine's passages... They have just done even more damage to it, possibly it DIDN'T need a complete replacement before, now it almost certainly does. They need to buy you the engine.

They can blame it on "pre-exsisting" damage. Same way the dealer that incorrectly installed the TB can now get out of paying. The deale that told me it was "safe to drive to DC" was in Waynesville, NC not the one in Morganton. I already told that one I would speak to them again through a lawyer.

I might just go get it bring it home and park it at the house and buy a $10,000 car.

Hmmmm just found this, wonder what damage could have been done on this engine wise? Get some Limited parts as well from it for $5500 http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?c ... n&engine=4 Cylinder&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&body_code=0&transmission=Automatic&first_record=126&default_sort=newsortbyprice_DESC&address=20112&sort_type=priceDESC&awsp=false&make=JEEP&seller_type=b&num_records=25&cardist=152&standard=false

He was a member here when that happened. If you can find the post maybe shoot him a email asking mileage and so forth.

That guy has been trying to sell that forever, he was a member here on lost. Turns out his insurance lapsed before the fire. Now he is stuck with a nice paperweight.

IMO thats still way overpriced for it, but the longblock is probably good, I saw a similar longblock selling on ebay for $700 a few years back.

Once the turbo seal blows it basically just pumps the oil out the exhaust. I can't believe you made it 60 miles. The dealer who told you to drive it is retarded.

Every big metropolitan area usually has one or two auto engine rebuilders. I can't imagine any of them charging 7K. These 2.8's are not exotic or anything.
This outfit, is probably too far away to be practical, but they might offer some perspective. Even 2900 seems high to me.

I am trying to avoid selling it as it has more than another 100,000 miles in it, besides the engine.

Then you had better bite on one of those "too far away engines" that is why we have freight companies. Would not cost more then $200 to get one of them shipped to you common carrier? Glad to see you are going to stay in the game :JEEPIN:

I have too much invested in setting up the KJ for my needs to quit on it now. Yes I coul dhave it stripped down in a weekend of all my stuff and install it on another CRD KJ but why buy someone else's problem. I have the loan for the engine already to go so now it is just waiting for Jeep to find a long block. Also GDE called me today and will square me away on a new TC to install while they have the engine out. After I pay the loan of it will be time for a GDE turbo and tune upgrade. There will be several other mods done as well. I wanted to keep it stock on the engine because of reliability, well we see where that got me. So this engine will haev all kinds of do-dads on it. I love this website because we all seem to learn from each other as each one of us succeeds and fails.

Not yet, I want Jeep to find me a motor to install first. If they can't well then I think it will be time to find a lawyer and start taking the fight to Jeep for the rest of us CRD owners. MAYBE they can work a deal on getting the KK CRD released for NA use. If they put me in a KJ CRD then everything in mine has to swap over, EVERYTHING.

So let me see if I understand this, your suit against Chrysler may be due to the fact that jeep is not able to procure you a new motor that you will be paying for or is it becasue they will not cover the total cost of repalcement?

If RacerTracer is correct about either one of those points being the substance of your lawsuit (i.e. Chrysler-Jeep is not maintaining a 10 year supply of parts or servicing an active fleet of their product...)

I think you will simply be shoving money down a lawyer's wallet for nothing in return. The case will never see the inside of a courtroom, as a judge in NY gave them a golden ticket already. From what I remember, this is the judge's order: Daimler Chrysler remains responsible for any legal claims based on its products. Chrysler-Fiat is a separate corporation purchasing only the assets of Daimler Chrysler, and is not responsible for any current or future claims against the products of Daimler-Chrysler.

Where I *do* think you have cause, (sadly not much) is in the actions of the dealer network in providing bad advice (hopefully in writing, but unlikely) and the other dealer in attempting to start your vehicle, then claiming "prior damage." Unfortunately, this seems to be a situation like mine with them - I had a warranty on paper, they decided I suddenly didn't. No amount of pushing from an individual is going to get them to change their opinion, especially when backed up by that dang judge's bankruptcy order. We are on our own, completely.

Also, suing them and demanding that they negotiate to bring ANOTHER fleet of vehicles to the USA, or even a single unit? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!! That seriously is the funniest thing I have read all week. You would be asking Chrysler to get a non-approved vehicle through the EPA just for you? Probably one that they had no intention of bringing to the USA in the first place, certainly not for at least the perennial "2-3 years from now" marketing speak of "we won't do it, but we don't want to say NO directly" that they would tell you.

The EPA is the bigger obstacle in getting any new vehicles here, but that is a whole different thread of pain. Your situation is that IF you were able to convince a judge to overlook that Golden Ticket, they would ONLY be replacing your vehicle with either the pro-rated value of its current worth (So the insurance value) in cash... OR providing a replacement vehicle from their current fleet - So a GAS KJ version, most likely, with only the pro-rated value of your KJ knocked off the price. The possibility of them just giving you a whole car? Slim to none.

The problem is that America is now the country of The Corporation, and we are merely its servants. If you bring this to a court, you are the one with the burden of proof, and the corporation will be given every concession possible. Life is just so hard for these tiny corporations trying to make their way in this rough world, they really must be protected from the big bad personal lawyer and the tort system. It almost brings a tear to my eye when I see how many corporations have proudly clawed their way past these hurtful lawsuits to reach the sunlight of billion dollar profits.

So it seems:

Blown Turbo = blown engine. Translation: Garrett's poor product and VM bad design.

What to do  Is there a way to re-supply the turbo with oil from a source that won't kill the engine? Are there any spare oil ports anywhere? How bout the oil pressure sender port. T into that for a secondary or redundant supply?

Tin,

What should have been used instead of the Garrett?

Just asking.
