Wow not close and I wonder if there is any damage to the engine, that was a hell of an impact.

I would bet the engine is fine. I've seen some pretty severe accidents where the engine was just fine.

The other thing that leads me to think the engine is good is by looking at the frame rails, when this jeep got a hit it was something high that missed the frame rails, most of the impact on came in on the relatively weak fender support and firewall.
