I just about fell off the couch laughing when I read this portion of the article,
from http://financiallyfit.yahoo.com/finance/article-111447-7590-3-6-ways-conventional-wisdom-wastes-money?ywaad=ad0035&nc
Change Your Oil Every 3,000 Miles

The little sticker placed on the car windshield reminds you to change a car's oil every 3,000 miles -- regardless of make, model or scenario.

But many experts now say the 3,000-mile oil change is dead. Why? New car engines and oil quality have advanced to the point where cars can go 5,000 to 10,000 miles without a change.

"Generally speaking, vehicles don't need to be changed every 3,000 miles anymore," says Tara Baukus Mello, author of Bankrate.com's Driving for Dollars column. "It's somewhere between 5,000 to 10,000, unless they have an engine oil sensor, and then it could be anywhere."

However, don't automatically assume you can push oil changes beyond 3,000 miles.

"It's important to consult your owner's manual for the frequency, the number of miles, the length of time between changes and the type of oil -- and to follow whatever those instructions are," Mello says.

I change oil at minimum 6,000 miles. Mobil 1 or Valvoline depending on what time of year it is (I either do it myself, or take it to a Valvoline), but full syn every time and a quality filter. Again Mobil 1 or a Purolator Pure 1. No compromises. 120,000 and still runs like the day she was new  :D

agreed, doesn't need to be every 3k these days, 5k under NORMAL driving conditions is fine according all the research i've done, or 7-8kj if you're using synthetic.

I still usually go around 3500, but my driving style might be considered more agrressive than normal.

my STi got new oil every 1000 miles or less, same with brake fluid! (after every track day) then again, those miles were about as aggressive as they get...

My favorite quote from my deceased grandfather regarding his Ford LTD; "These Fords are great... run them for 50K miles and you trade 'em in... don't even need to change the oil!"

Lifetime oil changes for the length of ownership (max of 4 changes per year). Since I haven't hit 80K yet and have owned it since Sep 2004, I am not too worried about needing a fifth in any one year's time. I usually wait until I do hit 3k and then ponder when I might have time to get it done at the dealer. I end up between 3500-5k between oil changes.
