Yes, especially when off-roading. These are great transmissions, very tough, but like any auto under stress, they will get hot. Oil coolers are cheap insurance.Image

According to the website, it fits 1988 - 1998 models. Do you think it will fit the 1999 - 2001 models?

Okay, I did some research. It appears that the 88-98 models have screw holes, whereas the 99 - 01 models do not. I have a one piece trim (with no screws) that goes up and over the door frame. There’s really no way that I could use it without some modification. :banghead:

84-96 trim is different than 97-99 trim. 00-01 trim does not have screw holes. the 97-98 trim has a different profile than the 84-96 trim.

Mine is a 98, the interior trim should be the same shape minus the screw holes, you will have to drills holes in the trim anyway to mount the pod and run the wires

The Cherokee stock headlights are pretty weak. So I’m moving “lights” up on the priority list. First, I’m going to make the heavy duty harness from:
http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoHeadlightLoom.htm

I have no clue on bulbs. I’m looking at the SilverStar’s, IPF Fatboys, and the HID’s. Tough decisions as they all seem to have good reviews. :dizzy:

Rhett, I went with these and I am super happy, they are alot brighter and you can upgrade to silver-star bulbs later if you wish to do so

Trans no but cooling system issues caused by the trans cooler in the radiator. I always just delete the in radiator cooler and use stand alone cooler and electric fan setup with adjustable T stat for the fan. It sits where the stock airbox was and a cone filter with adapter behind it. This unit is a VW air cooled stand alone oil cooler setup from bugpack

I got a great deal on the StrongArm 4291 Jeep Cherokee Liftgate Lift Support that fits 1997-01 XJ’s. I bought them on special where you buy 1, get $5 off the second and free shipping. Total cost was $29.40

After looking at headlight options, I think I'm going with LED headlights.

With all this snow, I decided it was time to replace these wore out stock carpeted floor mats with something more purposeful. I’ve been very happy with the Husky Liners that we have in our other vehicles so I decided to buy front and rear Husky Liners. I got them at 4 wheel parts for 15% off and free shipping.

I noticed that the coolant in my overflow reservoir looked pretty fowl. So I decided to get out the shop (wet) Vac and clean it up. In order to reach the bottom of the reservoir, I added a few attachments.

Image

Once I got down to the bottom, my Shop Vac was losing suction. So I pulled out the vacuum tube and found this at the bottom.

Image

As you can see, this sludge is nice and pasty.

Image

Lastly, I finally got her clean.

I took off a few more OE badges today. Here's the before look:

Image

You know the drill - Wife’s hair dryer, dental floss, and GOO GONE did the trick. They came off nicely as you can see.

Image

And here’s the after look.
