Lift Questions

Ok, so I have been searching forum after forum all afternoon to try to gather information and figure things out. Here is the deal... I have a 2 inch BDS lift. I am planning on installing it here soon. It came with a set of front and rear springs, and a set of rear shocks. The information that I found out about today is that there is a shock/strut in the front coils in a lot of the lift kits out there. However my BDS kit did not come with one. So my question is, do I need to get new shocks/struts for the front or can I just use the stock ones? Will the stock be able to handle the 2 more inches of stretch that the lift will provide? I was also thinking about adding a 2 inch budget boost along with the lift, but that probably won't come till later, but was also thinking about doing it all at once (If you have any thoughts on this, let me know). I tried searching for some of the shocks/struts that other people have used in their set up, but I had no luck finding any. It sounds like the type that I would need have been discontinued. Am I right or is there something that I am missing. Can I just use any shock/strut for the front or is there a certain type that I need to be looking for? Do I need to find one that is specific to 2 inch lifts or will any shock/strut fit? Thank you for any information and help!

In the front the shock/strut stays the same length. So what you have will work but if it was me i would a least get new ones since you will already have it apart to change the springs.

for the front just use the same as stock either OME or Bilstien will work
Thats the problem with BDS, everyone thinks its a great deal until you factor in the front shocks and then the price is the same as going OME

Oh and your idea of adding a 2 inch "budget boost" is a bad idea, will have too much lift
Do a clevis when you install and go from there

Ok, thanks guys! So it will stay the same length so any OME or Bilstien will work? I just want to make sure I understand correctly before I go off buying more parts. I thought it was a good idea too, like everyone else it sounds like. I had no idea about the whole front shocks until today when I was searching around. I wish I would of gone with OME but since I have the BDS I am going to make due with what I have. It sounds like once I get these front shocks it will be all good for the most part.

Thanks for letting me know about the "budget boost" idea.

The BDS front springs are actually rated a little higher than the OME 927s
Not sure what rear shocks they are using now, maybe their own brand.
It should give you a little more than 2 inches at first
like I stated do a clevis as well or you might as well when you install

What all is needed for a clevis? I don't really know much about them. Are they very hard to do?

With a clevis lift you are just moving the shock about 3/8 of an inch up higher in the clevis than what it would normally sit, 3/8 inch of clevis lift gives you 3/4 inch of actual lift
Some ( including me on the lifts we do here) will use (3) 2 inch conduit nuts per side more as a reference point to keep both sides the same

Grab those two Rancho RSX 17505s real quick from Amazon
they are great shocks and work really good,

Prolly not what you wanna hear lol, but when it comes to suspension you get what you pay for. I just put the whole nine yards worth of OME on my KJ today along with new wheels and tires and there is a night and day diff in the handling and ride with OME......Just throwing that out there. I give OME a thumbs up. :JEEPIN:

Thats what most of us have been preaching for years now you get waht you pay for .
OME and Bilstein shocks ride about the same so either are good with the OME springs.
Have installed both , actually just did a OME/Bilstein yesterday for a fellow member on here.
Ranchos ride is/was a little more firm which is what I liked about them

For what it's worth, after 3 hours of driving on the OME/Bilsteins...they're great!
