Well, this is the first couple of days I've had the Jeep in 10-20 degree weather. Wow, she starts really hard. Sounds crazy...but runs good after a minute....no heater plugged in too.

normal? sounds like it's gonna fall apart.

weve had about the same temps here in IL. ive noticed it takes a lil longer to start from cold these days (1-2 seconds more) but no issues, starts everytime surprisingly. when mine comes to life it really "roars" more than usual, but other than that it seems normal. i havent noticed any issues despite this so i would say its normal.
if you feel uncomfortable you can always put some diesel additive in your fuel, my dad uses it on his mercedes and i may do so but right now everything is in working order. if we get some low single digits or below 0 temps i may go for the additive.

It's pretty cold in Ohio right now too (9 degrees this morning). I have found that if I turn the key on and wait about 10 seconds, it starts better when cold. The glow plug light comes on for about a second. I'm not sure if the glow plugs stay on longer than the light, but this has been working for me. If I try to start it as soon as I turn the key, it takes a lot more cranking.

I think I am going to start using the block heater again. mine just takes too long to warm up

I do keep my key in the on position like 30 seconds in this cold. it was 15°F this morning mine took a minute to get running smooth. I would not just get in and start it like a gasser in this cold, mine would never start or at least I have that fear that it would have to crank untill the battery was dead.

I hope you guys are using your block heater. It'll really make starts a lot easier in cold weather, and your engine will thank you for it down the road. Just plug it up overnight, then unplug before you get in it to leave. Very simple, and helpful to your engine, starter, and battery.

It was 6 here in Columbus this morning :frankie: Yes the glow plugs stay on past when the light goes out  This morning I waited about ten seconds and it fires up almost like normal except for the racket :ROTFL:

Out of about 20 diesel cars I've owned this is the first to have a block heater and I've only tried it once :goink: I had a 1978 Rabbit and was in a training school in January 79 in New Jersey. For one week the warmest it got was SEVEN BELOW and it sat in a motel parking lot and started every morning. I did have some fuel jelling problems where it would only idel. VW at that time recommended adding no more then 10% gasoline to #2 :dead:
