Just wondering how often you pull your map for cleaning? I did it the same day i pulled the MAF that was around 10k ago. Just wondering how much cleaner it will stay after the EGR is disabled.

I noticed this thing doesn't coast very well in gear. It coasts way worse than my g/f's 99 xj and the 95 xj i have, it even coasts worse than my 99 powerstroke. I'm sure no brakes are hanging up as when i bump it into N you can feel the hang up drop off. I know this is a hard to answer question but does yours coast kinda like your going into a headwind i guess would be a good description.

I cleaned mine at 52K when I bought it. It's caked in soot so I doubt it was ever cleaned before. Did EHM at 55K. Checked it at 57K when I installed my eco tune. It was fairly clean so I left it alone. I will probably check again in another 5K just to see the difference after eco tune.

Cleaned mine today- It was probably the first time it had ever been done:

Will probably check it at each oil change.

My CRD coasts very well. I'm amazed at how well it does coast! It coasts almost as well as my wife's TDI Jetta.

The PO did change all the diff fluids and transfer case fluid for synthetic, but I doubt that would account for all the difference between yours and mine.

Sticky calipers can be tricky. Took me a long time (two sets of brakes over two years) to get my F-250 (sold) caliper hang up figured out.

thats how mine looked when i cleaned it at 62k or so when i got it. Its right around 71k or so i'll probably just wait and check it in the spring when it gets warmer.



The coasting thing. I haven't jacked it up and checked the wheels but i have walked around after a drive and all of the rotors feel the same temp (by hand) I didn't shoot it with a IR gun or anything. Its just odd it coasts good in N but in gear its not so great. I haven't done any testing but i think it coasts better under 40-45 MPH than it does over that I'll have to pay attention to it. My MPG is about what i have been expecting for the temps its been 18.5-20 mpg non highway country driving as its been around 5-15 deg for a good while with some days getting into mid 20's but i do 95% of my driving after 9pm and before 8am as i work nights so its much colder. I just find it hard to believe that the kj doesn't coast as well as the box xj, or even better than the big frontal area of my f250. Its not a big deal its just the worst coasting thing i have owned next to my cbr. I'll do a quick walk around after my short drive tonight and see if i can feel a hot brake.

Another note, i noticed it feels like it drags more when the TC is unlocked as opposed to locked?

Sure sounds like it is drivetrain related. Has your TC been swapped out? Does your CRD have the F37 neutering done to it? Checked the transfer case fluid level lately?

Its been f37'd, As far as i know the TC is original, I did just notice last week while pulling a pretty steep grade 5% or more with 4 guys in it when my speed drops down to around 53 or so it will shudder, but i have been backing out of it when it does or making it downshift out of locked 4th. It has only done it 3 times now. I havn't checked the T-case fluid in a long time. It has coasted like this for as long as i had owned it and it seams to be about the same as the 05 i drove for a day on a test drive.

And i just checked the price of a new TC as i will probably be putting one in this spring and they went up AGAIN. The cheapest i can find is 315 I'll probably call the local dealer tomorrow and get a price, i may end up buying one before they go up even more.

Will the Euro TC change the coasting?

I doubt it, but the TCM tune from GDE might. It really makes the diesel feel like a diesel because it shifts in the fat of the torque.

Just did my TC. It was $317

Check around in this forum; someone was selling one for $250 or so... I think.

After Provent and SEGR+GDE tune the sensor is clear. Well, I last checked it 15,000 miles ago and it was clear. 10,000 miles before that it was clear, 6,000 miles before that it was clear...

I think the EGR being dead + the Provent pretty much fixes it.

As for the dragging, you may find RPM has more to do with it than speed. Are you running the original muffler? Back in day several complained that it was restrictive and that it acted like a engine break when they took their foot off the go pedal. (Edited: Opps, I see you have straight piped it).

Also, if you are on the stock tune, see here. Turns out the ECM tune helps with this, not the TCM tune:

MPA wants 342.50 now and the other one that was on here i believe is sold. I'm about half afraid not to buy one now as either they are going to keep going up in price or they are going to be hard to find when i REALLY need one.

I'll probably buy one in the next week or so and just keep it on hand. I'll change it in the spring as i think i'll be ok if i just keep it from bogging down that low until i get it changed. It has only done it at one spot of the road and its done it maybe 2-3 times on the hill. I only drive that way 5 days a week every 4 weeks (car pool) So i'll be ok until spring. Then i'll do a reflash and shift kit.
