So I looked at a couple CRD liberties, and I can't decide witch one. Both of them are 05's, and diesel but that's pretty much where the similarities end.

The first one:
Limited
Grey leather interior(pretty good shape, and clean)
Odd greenish gold
130,000 miles
Minor body damage(small dents and scratches)
1/2 tread street tires
Has been flashed
No idea whats been done to it
$9,000!!!!!

The other:
Sport
BLACK
Grey cloth interior(clean/good shape)
80,000 miles
Minor scratches, no dents
ARB bumper
2.5" lift
New BFG tires
American racing Teflon coated wheels
Has been flashed
$14,000

Both of them are being sold by dealers, and both are in Denver 50-75 miles away. My problem is, do I buy the cheaper limited with higher miles and an ODD color, or the black one that's $5,000 more? I would much rather have the black one just because it's black, but I don't know if buying a lesser Jeep for more money just because of the color is a wise thing to do. Not to mention the guy with the gold one is desperate to sell and has lowered the price 4 times in the last 2 weeks. He said the normal " I've had so many calls on it, and I have like 4 people that wanna buy it Monday." Im pretty sure that's BS, but if he sells it Im gonna have no choice to buy the black one. The only other Jeep I've found is an 06 and they want $18,000.

What would you do?

My only issue there is Im not gonna be wheeling it. It will be my daily driver, also, I think the arb bumper is ugly. :ROTFL: I want a black Jeep, but can live with out it if it means spending less money.

Unless the dealer can show you the timing belt has been replaced on number 1 your looking at a $1000 bill :furious:

Number 2 being black would make it hot in a warm sunny climate. I personally like the stock 16" mag rims tons better then those cheap looking black ones that kids go for :JEEPIN:

NEITHER

There are 2 CRDs for sale in Denver area that have low miles. One has 21k miles and the other has 23k miles. I'd pass on higher mileage vehicles because the risk of issues is greater than a vehicle that is barely broken in.

Where are these Jeeps? I can't seem to find any, Im looking on craigslist, in the American classifieds, news papers, kijiji, auto trader, and even ebay. What am I missing?

My biggest problem is money. I can't spend a lot, because of the payment. I've already found a loan, but the best interest rate I can get is an absurd 8.75%! :banghead: My credit is great, they just jack up the rate because it's a newer vehicle :furious: If I had a huge down payment I wouldn't have any problems, but all I'll have is what I get selling my Saturn. I have 2 cars for sale right now, but I doubt I'll sell ether one before I buy the Jeep. It's a hard market, especially this time of year.

As for the timing belt, I can do all the work if it needs to be replaced. How would I know unless I took it all apart? Is there any way to see it?

That color is called "Khaki" and is the same color as my CRD - Its not a bad color, were you looking at it under blue halogen lights? Funny lighting can make it look weird.

I had a black vehicle in a hot climate, and let me tell you - stay away. Black is HOT and puts more stress on the rest of the vehicle, interior included.

Push the dealer to drop the price to allow for the timing belt job, and threaten to walk if he won't budge even $500 on it. It is a job you can do yourself, and the belt is available for less than $100. I would replace the rollers, tensioner, and water pump at the same time, but that is me. There isn't any way to verify if it has been done that I know of, you can't see the belt without pulling the accessory belt and the cooling fan. Other people have said that they could still read the name on the back of the belt after 100k miles, so I don't know if a physical inspection will do much good anyway.

The stock aluminum wheels are much lighter than those ugly black wheels, and will help a bit on the mileage. The ARB bumper would hurt you on mileage, they are HEAVY.

Save the money, get the khaki CRD, and when you need tires, get BF Goodrich Commercial T/A 215/85/16 for about $450 a full set - mounted and balanced. That difference in mileage versus price - The mileage might as well be identical. Also, that leaves more money for the GDE transmission tune, which you WILL WANT, and they might be able to tell you if the "flash" on the computer is one of theirs. If not... Consider getting that too - its worth it.

lower mileage also.

If you don't live to far I wouldn't mind swapping my stock bumper plus $$ for the ARB.

Thanx for posting those Drewd, but I can't afford $18,000. I'v seen that one, and it's nice, I just don't have an extra $10,000.

VMKJCRD, that would be great, but Im in CO, and your in NY. That's a long way to ship the bumper :(

I have a couple black cars, and I agree, there hot. I just like black, but I don't NEED it. I saw it out in the day light, so no weird color change from the lights. It's not bad, just odd to me. Not quite gold, but not quite green ether.

I think Im gonna offer $8000 for the higher mileage Jeep and see what he says. If he says no I'll keep looking and saving money. I was hoping there was a way to see the belt, and maybe inspect the cogged side of it, but figured I most likely couldn't do that. I'v seen belts that broke on cars with more then 200,000 that you could still reed the label on so I would never go off that. I plan to replace every thing I can when I do the timing belt because I have done things like this before. If Im taking it apart I might as well do it right the first time.

I know there's a huge difference between the liberties eng and mine, but my Topkick has 420,800 miles and still runs great.(300 horse CAT!) I've seen VW diesel engines with over 500,000 and still going strong. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have one with 20,000, but with out winning the loto I don't think that's gonna happen.

Libby came home today! I went ahead and bought the "khaki" Jeep, couldn't find anything else I could afford. Im in love, I can't believe I didn't buy one sooner! :ROTFL: Tomorrow morning after I put the new radiator in my car I have a few things to do. The muffler will be the first to go, then the ugly chrome grill, and the EGR valve/map sensor. I will just be unplugging it for now, but will be buying the module. Who sells them here? I found the name once, but I've looked at so much I've lost it. I'll also be replacing the hoses, and I have to figure out if the timing belt has been done. I ended up buying a warranty with my loan, and it covers pretty much every thing. I however do not wanna have to use it. Im not the kind of person who just plugs the key in and drives, I maintain things meticulously. I'll post some pix when I can get some good ones, it's to dark. :goink:

Kool I wish you the best of luck with it. I might have got the black one for lower miles lift and ARB but I like that look. the wheels look ok on it too. However it was a sport and the limited you got has a much nicer interior.

Congrats on the new ride, BTW Dave Solon Kia in Colorado Springs just got blue 06 Liberty CRD on a trade in today. Talke to George Mentz, the internet salesman if you are interested in acquiring this vehicle. I'm not associated with the dealership at all...just passing along a tip to anyone who is looking for a CRD in Colorado Springs.

Im in CO springs, and I have read the noob guide couple times. This is my first CRD of course, but Im not new to Jeeps at all. I just figured the diesel revolution is upon us, and I better jump on while it's just starting out. I love it, and every vehicle I own would be diesel if it was possible. :ROTFL: Candy will be getting a 4BT as soon as I find one, my truck has a 300 horse CAT, and I plan some day to put a duramax in my Malibu!

I have a few things I can do today, but just started collecting parts. Of course the turbo hoses, and all that will be replaced, and I need to do the crank case vent. It's time to go pull the ugly plastic cover off, and get dirty!

To bad I didn't know about that trade in yesterday, I would have looked at it before buying.

I considered that, but sense Im not gonna be lifting it I decided against it. Im gonna be driving her every day, and a lift and big tires doesn't help get better mileage. The interior is nice, but Im missing a head rest  It will be fun finding one, Im thinking there's not many extras out there just collecting dust :ROTFL: Thanx for the luck, Im gonna need it

Hey ROCK!
What year is your new truck?
What year is the black one?

I have a Khaki '06 Limited and really like the color. The leather option is nice too.
Off-roading scratches from brush would show up more on the black.

Rock,
If you need help with the almost mandatory lift pump (I have a kennedy inline), provent ccv filter routing/install, and to see what a racor looks like, just holler. I'm in northern COS right by the Air Farce Academy (not ragging on the Air Force...just the Academy....went to a rival school myself)
