Two questions about passenger side of the engine bay

1) There are two sensors on the factory air box. One is a MAF sensor and the other is an IAT sensor. Is that correct? Which of these sensors is NECESSARY for operation after getting a GDE tune? (Reason I ask is I'm considering making my own intake system, and I wonder if I need to keep both sensors or not).

2) The little filter for the turbo vacuum control near the TCM... what is the proper name for that filter and does anybody have a part # for it? I want to replace mine at 100K with the other stuff.

I doubt anyone has the part number off-hand for that filter, probably just gonna have to look in the parts fiche for it.

Boost Pressure Solenoid Filter

Dodge\Chrysler part number- 05080374AA FILTER, VACUUM SENSOR
Mercedes Benz part number- A0000780956

You can replace this with a generic, see through plastic, 1/4" inline paper fuel filter.

Just cut and paste from my notes; always good to double check.

The second airbox sensor is another MAP sensor, NOT any kind of temperature sensor. It is commonly known on here as the "Mercedes Logo Sensor" as it has that logo and a Mercedes part number on it. According to Mercedes' own listings, that sensor is used for Manifold Absolute Pressure readings in some of their vehicles.

There is no need to have this sensor there, however the removal of it or even unplugging it will cause a limp mode. I believe that it is detecting the MAP of the airbox (so always about 14.7 psi or so) as part of the nanny-system for the EGR, as when the EGR is open, the intake itself is not under any boost pressure. Accordingly, the computer can compare the external (airbox) MAP value to the internal intake MAP sensor, and determine in yet another way if the EGR is in fact operational... Or has been defeated. If the computer doesn't like the result - Limp mode.

I believe GDE has managed to find this sensor in the code (IIRC, it wasn't listed in any of Mopar's diagnostics about the system) and neuter it finally. I haven't sent my ECU back in for the latest update however, so I'm not entirely certain. I know that if I mess with that little monster, even having the SEGR, I will get a limp mode and lose ALL power from my engine.

Hmm.. that's interesting about the sensor. I just got the latest GDE HOT tune about two weeks ago, so I guess I could unplug the sensors and see what happens.

Then I'll know for sure.

A GDE tune will do a few similar things that unplugging the MAF sensor will, albeit a different way (The former re-tunes the fuel and EGR curve. The latter forces the compter to not know how to operate the EGR properly and essentially shuts it down, but in the process, throws a MIL and a code).

With the GDE, there's not really a good reason to unplug any of them (same with the SEGR circuit).

It's not that I necessarily want to unplug them. It's just that if I make an intake kit, it will be a lot of work to try and design a way for the sensors to adapt to the intake tube. If I do away with the sensors, the intake is a 15 minute job. If I have to keep both sensors, then it could take the better part of a Saturday to figure out how to mount the sensors reliably.

Just unplug them and test. The latest tune should have these turned off. Let us know either way. Thanks!
