I'd add that if you want this engine/vehicle to be bullet-proof, you're already 130,000 miles beyond the ability to achieve that by running WVO. WVO works -- in a diesel that has a WWII vintage fuel injection system, but it is troublesome in anything built after about 1990, and pure death in anything close to modern, which this common rail diesel is.

This is absolutely not true. With a proper WVO system its hardly any different than running #2. The important thing about WVO or SVO is heating the fuel as hot as possible to improve the viscosity. WVO needs to be heated to AT LEAST 180F, and ideally more like 200-200F.

If he has observed proper warm up and shut down with his WVO system I forsee no reason that it would have caused any problems.

I agree with Sam.

The people at Elsbett in Germany confirm what SirSam says. The VO must be super hot before it reaches the injectors and the system must be purged before shut down. They further say that the CRD is a good candidate for a 2 tank VO system with no issues.

Not to speculate but...... Given the issue with the thermostat
sticking open on these engines, with a two tank system, the WVO
may not be getting to the proper temp to lower the viscosity....
Even after it's up to temp and switched over to WVO.
I have heard 180-200F to burn properly as well.

Just a thought......

John

The WVO is not an issue. I bought this vehicle new specifically to run WVO in it. As soon as 36K and the warranty was up I started running WVO. It came from the factory with B95 in it. The fuel system was designed with Bio Fuel in mind. Anything you can do wrong with it I have done it. This is a robust engine in the fuel burning department.
It burns best when heated to the optimum temp...and the engine is already running....but i have run it in may scenarios...if it is liquid and not jelled it will burn. If you shut down on it....and let it sit....it will not....somtimes I forgot....

How ever, the turbo is not robust enough....and the timing belt...i will consider my self lucky....62K lucky....this should also be more robust as well dont ya think....

Is this why they discontinued this engine in this vehicle.

This Jeep has been like a marriage good times and bad times, most of it has been good. I believe many folks would have given up on this a long time ago....like a bad marriage... but I am willing to work at it and learn from it....now that I am in counseling....

By the way I appreciate the help and guidance
Pete

Actually, I believe it came with B5 and Chrysler never recommended more than B20. I've run B99 a few times with no issues, but thought I should point this out. I know nothing about running WVO, so I can't comment on that specifically...

Very, VERY lucky. The turbo, on the other hand, should be fine for some time if properly cooled down, etc.

They discontinued it, if I recall correctly, largely because the new EPA regs that took hold in 2007 would've required significant changes to the engine, thus more R&D $$$$. The vehicles sold very well, but I've read that Jeep just felt it wasn't worth putting the money into the changes that needed to be made.
