Just had a thought here. I have been reading up on changing the timing belt trying to decide how I wanna do mine. Im considering pulling the exhaust manifold rather then the entire timing cover. Has anyone ever ported/ port matched an exhaust manifold? I figured sense it's off why not clean it up a bit? I know it's not gonna do a whole lot, but it will make an improvement in flow. Im sure it's pretty rough inside there, just like any other iron manifold. I tried a couple searches here, and google. I haven't found anything on it. I figured it would be better here then wasting space it the tech thread I was looking at. I have all the tools to do it, so I thought I might give it a shot. I won't be grinding into it because I know it gets real hot and will crack if it's to thin. Im just thinking about cleaning up the surface.

Unlike older engines that were not designed very well in respect to the heads and manifolds, our CRDs have manifolds that are well done. I have match ported manifolds and heads in the past, hogged them and hopped up engines. I almost made a flow bench but found other things to do. What I have found out is that every year the manufacturers got closer to what the Gear Heads knew and stole their ideas. Due to that, tuners have moved on to other tricks and made engines perform beyond what they did in the past.
If you want to do porting, pick an older engine built before the 90s.You will feel good about the time you have invested. Anything newer has aoll the ripped off Gear Head trickis built in.

I kind of figured that, manufactures have been ripping us off for years and not just by jacking up prices!

I still have to order all the parts, and get the tools to do the belt so it will be a while before I dig into it. I've been working on cars sense I was old enough to hold a wrench, so I shouldn't have any problems doing it my self. I still haven't decided on what all Im gonna buy though. It's a lot of money to spend, but I wanna do it right the first time.
