BRAIN FLASH :dizzy:

Thinking back to my VW days now. DO YOU HAVE AN AFTER MARKET RADIO? if so disconnect it. This will cause VW's to stop communicating. It has to do with after market radios using a pin on the connector to raise and lower a power antenna that VW connects to the data buss to interigrate the radio.
If so the solution is to remove that pin from the connector.

Update -

I've checked all the the pins in the DLC and in the scanner - nothing's missing, lose or out of place

Aftermarket radio - no, I've got the factory 6 disc changer

Went to the local dealer yesterday with my VIN number trying to find out what re-flashes had been done to the car. From their records, and what they could get from the mothership - they say that the only recalls done were the blower motor and the ball joints. They claim that not only had the F31 nor the F37 never been done, but also that neither would apply to my Jeep. They said that both issues must have been corrected before this one was built. I can't remember the exact build date, but do know that we took delivery 4/11/2006. I think the build date was a couple of weeks prior to this.

So, as soon as I get the 05's cooling system back together - this one's going in to the dealer to see if they can get the OBD communication issue figured out.

Will the mothership's brain let them try a F31 even if my VIN isn't included in the 1,200 vehicles that were supposedly affected? And, if so - will it do the F37 also? I've seen conflicting info here as to whether one can be done without the other.

And also - even if I leave my scanner with the dealer's mechanics - what's the possibility of them coming back with a "technician could not reproduce symptom" like they've done with so many other issues? Are they really required to make my aftermarket scanner work with the vehicle?

They are only required to provide the recall update at no cost. Since you already have this, everything else is your dime.

NO

As long as the DRBIII or StarScan, depending on year, works that is all they are required to make work.

No US CRD's came from the factory with F37 because F37 came out in December of 2006 after the 06 model year production was stopped  Early on it was determined that even though F37 was just a TSB dealers were treating it as a recall. But that was before bankruptcy. A true recall is for safty issues and the NHATA (or whatever it is) was involved. All model year 2005 and those model year 2006s produced before November 2005 had the torque converter replaced. BUT all 2005 and 2006 CRD's got the ECM and TCM flashed.
As far as 'required" to make it work with third party scanners first you/they need to determine they can communicate with it with their gear. A good way to do that would be to replace the torque converter and flash the ECM and TCM.
F31 was a recall for not communicating with third party scanners and not many CRD's were effected and needed F31 because IT WAS CAUSED by a flash that came out in early June 06. After owning mine for only two weeks a cooling leak developed and while there they flashed it with an early version of what later was F37 and that early flash caused it to not communicate with third party scanners :dead:
Since there is already history of CRD's not communicating with third party scanners you may have a leg to stand on even if only one leg :SOMBRERO: Expecially since the service records of your jeep are questionable :dizzy:
But there's that puppet judge in NY that determined that "new car company" is not responsible for "old car company's" problems :banghead:
