Hi guys, After being in a motorcycle accident, I started looking for a 4x4 that got decent fuel mileage. I stumbled onto this webboard and found out about the CRD. Several months of looking for one close by and that had low mileage was a crapshoot at best. I was just about ready to give up on my search until one gloriously appeared on Craigslist. A CRD which I wanted, 4x4, well they all are, and in a color that I liked... Well ok anything but black. After a quick test drive and a few days of getting my finances in order, I made an offer and was accepted. The liberty CRD sport jeep has 49k miles and I paid $9500.. Do you think I paid too much for it :)

I took it out over the weekend and was getting only 23 mpg. Then I filled up the tires to 44 psi and have went 270 miles with 5/8ths of a tank of diesel remaining . Hopefully the mileage went up a bit. Still to do this weekend is clean every sensor that is recommended by this board and replace the air filter (on order) and have a backup fuel filter. I will be replacing the oil and filter tomorrow, friggin oil drain copper gasket is on order. Its 18 mm right??

As for the questions, the PO had the oil last changed at 37k and I will be changing that before she get's driven again. My question is they last changed the oil with 15w40 super D XA oil.. What the hell is that, has anyone heard of it before. It was done at a firestone auto care in Texas. I am hoping that the PO didnt screw the pooch on this one. But I will be changing the oil and changing it again a few weeks later to hopefully flush out the old oil. That and call the firestone center and ask questions :)

Second question is that the drivers side mirror was broke off. How hard is that to change out and will I have to go through the door panels to get to it or pop off the round plugs and get to it that way? I guess I can wait until the new unit gets to me but it would be nice to be informed.

Third question is can you put an EVIC on a Liberty that doesnt have it. Would be nice to know how far I can go with remaining fuel in the tank. Optimistic fuel mileage would be nice. Outside temp would be great to know too.

I will say that so far this jeep has been a fairly nice ride. Fit and finish on the rear view mirror could have been better, mine has a slight wiggle to it and a squeak coming from the drivers side door area, it could be the broken mirror but not sure. My buddy and I went out and took it for a 600 mile ride and when the fishing wasn't going good, we were wondering if the liberty could go up the steep dirt road with lots of rocks... She chugged up just fine! Can't wait until the next fishing trip!!

I am sure that I will have more questions later but put me down at the moment for a happy CRD owner!! Boss had his fun and told me that his kid has bigger toys and his kid is only 8. He still doesnt believe me when I told him what the towing capacity is :-)r

If it's in good mechanical shape, engine, running gear, suspension etc. you stole it. Low milage and yes I can go almost 580 miles on a tank. Never push it to that number but according to my driving, I average on the highway 27 driving the speed limit, running tire pressure about 40. Yes, you got a good deal. Enjoy it, I love mine.
