I know in a lot of cars, gas usually drips out the tail pipe from time to time. I notice it does it in my Liberty diesel as well, and it appears that the fuel is oil (which I believe diesel fuel is). So, is this common, to see oily looking spots out the tailpipe? It's probably more when it's cold out.

For every gallon of fuel burned, Gasoline, Diesel, or Jet Fuel there is ~one gallon of synthetic water produced. Propane and Natural Gas also produce water, just a little less. That is why when it is cold outside, the synthetic water looks like steam coming out the tail pipe. With a Diesel the soot mixes in with the steam and drips black oily looking slop, this is normal. Don't worry about it, the trees, grass, other plants, and bacteria will use it up to grow.

Now if you want to make a Hippie spit out his/her Starbucks, tell them their Starbucks is contaminated with Synthetic Di-Hydrogen Monoxide (H2O--Water) :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:

Non Hippies will not care and say so what and drink their coffee, Acid Head Hippies will try to create new environmental regulations until the Chemists, Engineers, and Physicists laugh them out of the room, because even they get it.

it would be bad on anything to have fuel dripping out of the tailpipe...
however it would be extremely common on all vehicles to have water dripping out of the tailpipe
and the water will continue coming out until the entire exhaust system is warm

(it may smell funny because to the exhaust carbon - but it should not be flammable)

that's also why a lot of older cars have rusted out exhausts - newer ones tend to have stainless steel or aluminum coated steel.

That is funny i never notice much steam or any dripping form mine. even on the coldest mornings I only see a small abount of steam at idle and not much more once under way. other gas vehilcles I had put out more steam on cold start.
