I am looking at the day star lift and the RK lift which and why? I know the RK lift you need to get grade 8 bolts.

I was going to use the bds kit but not sure the springs will hold the extra weight a full 2"

I should probably also mention this is my DD and that I like to go through crazy stuff when I do off road...

If your are really set on a spacer lift the rk is probably the best route because of the easy installation. I have the daystar and sure its doing its job for now but the ride is fairly stiff. Not sure how long my springs will last :juggle:

RK all the way and you don't "need" grade 8 bolts. I ran my kit for over a year with no issues and I did a lot of off-roading with it. You will want to upgrade your rear shocks, I used BDS and they were great. My KK was my DD also and it performed great on the highway. No major issues with excessive body roll.

Thanks guys I was hoping like I said to use the BDS lift kit but not sure. I have heard multiple different things on the front and rear suspension is the kk the same as the kj just weight difference?

From what i have read here it sounds like the kj front end is close to the same but the strut assembly is like a 1/2" shorter on the kj. Rear springs are different than a kj and the rear shock placement is also different.

I actually have had Mike08Liberty's old RK lift with the BDS shocks on my KK for a few months now and have been pleased with it so far. I do get the "banging" occassionally when I hit a bump the right way but some JBA A-arms will takr care of that.

I've had the IRO 3" for over two years now on my WJ. Nothing but good all around. Plus I have all 6 of their adjustable control arms on also. I am running the 265 70-16 Treadwright MTR's currently on Cragar steelies. There is nothing wrong with IRO and they answer all emails which is important when you are shopping around or have questions after the sale.

I hear good things about the Zone 4" but nothing overall better than the IRO 3" or 4".

I also have the Rock Krawler 3.5" sitting in the living-room for my KK. Waiting for some warmer weather to get it on.

I never professed any vast knowledge of the Rock Krawler lift as I just got it. I do HAVE and RUN the IRO lift so I do have my OWN opinion on them. I guess you missed the part where I said I didn't OWN a Zone lift but have heard nothing bad about it.

But I'm sure you have all the facts, right? Why be an azz?

To the op... do not get the RK or the daystar... save your money and go with a suspension lift... its only a few hundred dollars more...

Or go with a spacer lift and do it again in a yr or two when your stock springs are sagged from over compressing them with spacers and forks.

I do believe opinions were asked and thrown out there about a Zone versus IRO lift. I'm sorry if I broke some unwritten rule as the last time I checked we were talking about JEEPS. No need to get your panties in a bunch.

There are plenty of people on here running the RK lift with decent reviews. I'm sure the cost of that lift you have is far more than a "couple hundred dollars" more. Not all of us have tons of money to throw around for full suspension lifts. I wish I did.

Any spacer type lift is only a temp. lift when it is all said and done. RK has a very poor record even though there are a few who think they are great. Problem has been is that no one has ran one long term. Put a spacer type lift on with new stock springs sure it will be good for a while, but run one for two-three years :roll:

Front springs will be stacked for sure.
Full spring is still the only way to go. Cost is only what you want to pay for either cheap or quality.
I ran my first OME lift for 100,000 miles, do that with a spacer type lift, ain't gonna happen.
Sure I had to save up over a couple of months but in the end it was the right choice.

Oh and we do have a Grand Cherokee section :mrgreen:

The thread starter mentioned his WJ and teckman02 also has a WJ and wanted some info on it. gman1322 is just putting in his opinion on the WJ considering he owns one also. There's nothing wrong with talking about another Jeep. This board has changed and is now excepting to all Jeep owners. The main topic of which lift should he get, Daystar or RK, is still being discussed but now a side topic has come up, the WJ. Nothing wrong with that and there's no need to snap at someone for that.

Many of us KK owners have run and still are running the RK lift with lots of success and no issues. The RK kit is a proven kit and no one has reported any "premature" wear issues.

Now see...that was helpful without being condescending. Thank you for explaining the difference in long term usage between the two lift types. The RK lift I bought is temporary for now until I can both save up for the full lift and decide on what height I ultimately want to end up with.

I do know about the Grand Cherokee section but, the question was raised here though.

To the OP, I apologize for my previous posts. I think "tommudd" has put forth the best explanation so far towards your original question.

I have yet to see why a RK lift is good? I can see using a Daystar on a new KK, or even one maybe a year old and 10-12,000 miles. For short term that would work, although I'd still replace all 4 shocks. But RK sends the wrong rated bolts for example and yet people say Oh thats OK. Only takes one time for a bolt to fail.
RKs never were the lift to have in the KJ world, but KKs they are OK?
Puzzling to me when some spend so much on other items like wheels, tires, sound systems and other doodads and cheap out on one of the most important items,..a lift that will provide a good ride / handling KK!

I installed my Daystar about 25K ago and its drove like a tank ever since lol. I didnt take measurements then so i cant say if it has sagged much but its still alot higher than stock. I know the JBA is the best there is but i honestly would not be able to afford it with all my bills.
