I have found a Monroe Sensa-Trac shock load adjusting coil over with a 60 lb. spring rate. This gives 1200lbs extra load capacity at ride. I have done all the work for you guys by getting measurements etc. 14.0"compressed,22.875" extended, 8.875" travel which is perfect for our KJ's. I have installed a set on an 06 CRD 4x4 with no lift that we use for towing our camping trailer and, they work great loaded or unloaded. Offroad articulation is the same, no loss maybe better infact. The part number is 58578 Monroe or you can also find the same by 1987 Chevrolet 1/2 ton 2wd rear shock. These ironically are the same.

so these would be a replacement/alternative for something like the AIR LIFT 60777 1000 Series Rear Air Spring Kit?

Yes very much an alternative to the airlift 1000 kit and, less of a pain as well. I swear they work well as intended. I also have an 07 KJ 3.7 4x4 3.5 lifted with the same type on it. The ones on it are designed for a 1994 Chevy Astro Van 4x4 (no joke ) but, the measurements were great so thats what I used. 4900lb trailer rv 490lb tongue wt and, it works like a dream.

I use a rear coil over shock as well but not for a Astro van
using the same shock that works great for a lifted KJ, and everyones been using for a long time, the 99-04 Dodge Dakota shocks, so length/ fit etc are perfect.
Been running them for quite a while now

I went and dug up the info from Monroe's site on the choices for load adjusting coilover shocks for the 99-04 dodge dakota as you suggested and I found some interesting bits...

STOCK 37203
Compressed Length 14"
Extended Length 21 7/8"
Travel Length 7 7/8"

poppie's alternative 58578
Compressed Length 14"
Extended Length 22 7/8"
Travel Length 8 7/8"

Dakota RWD 58630
Compressed Length 14 1/2"
Extended Length 22 3/4"
Travel Length 8 1/4"

Dakota 4WD 58649
Compressed Length 15 1/4"
Extended Length 25 1/4"
Travel Length 10"

Just based on that data I'd have to say that poppie's choice is a better fit overall. the compressed length is identical which means there's no possible issues with bump stops (having a longer compressed length would give me concern that if you bottomed out that side you could damage the shock.) for that reason I wouldn't consider running the 58649 unless you are, as you stated, lifted and you've done something to extend the bump stop.

I really don't think an eye-rolling was warranted as if anything this just gives another part number possiblity for the future for when monroe stops making certain parts.

Just my :2cents:

like belly buttons everyone has one ( an opinion)
Have to understand as well, I am a little taller than most , run more bumpstop than most due to lift/size tires/wheels etc.
I also look at lifting capacity and overall how they bolt up
The ones I have work great, have been on road and off road tested, with no load on them and also pulling trailers. I also have an extra 150 lbs (plus) hanging off the rear with an RL bumper and Kilby gas tank skid.
While it is all fine and good to look in books to see the info you provided I know from experience what works. I've been known to buy new shocks, install them and a week later pull them off due to not liking them, either the way they fit or the way they ride.
So in the end it may be another alternative, I was just laughing at why he had to go to Chevrolet parts when there was something so close to working in the Dodge line that we know works and fits well

The ones you listed the extended length would never work for me either
nor would the compressed since then you would be stacking the springs if using it fully
so the ones I am using work much better overall

But again back to belly buttons
now there is something to roll your eyes at :goink: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL: :ROTFL:
