what did you do with your old front bumper? :D

It was cut in pieces. I still have the turn signal sections on the jeep, the rest of it went into the recyling bin.

Bugnout! The local 4wd drive club that my wife belongs to (Yes I said wife.) is heading down to do Hole In the Rock in a late May. We'd like to go, but I am a little concerned about ripping out my exhaust or generally damaging my Libby, so I am asking you how difficult this trail would be for a basically stock height Liberty?

The only difference from stock may be the 245/60R17 tires- they are maybe...maybe an inch taller, but I'm not really sure.

Thanks in advance.

You'll need full skids and sliders, minimum, and plan on banging the skids a lot. I did some damage to KJ on the trip, specifically I broke the window washer resevour and damaged the front bumper. No sheet metal damage but was very happy I installed the sliders before the trip. I knew right then that a couple of inches of lift would make the trip more enjoyable.

I did not take the KJ all the way to the end of the trail the first trip. We camped about 25 miles in, right after Grey Mesa and I left the KJ in camp the second day and rode with the other guys. I probably could have done the second day, but would have needed to be winched in a number of spots. As it turned, some of the other guys had mechanical issues on day 2 and this combined with having to haul my butt, we would have been out on the trail very late.

Go if you can, you'll love it.

Thanks!

Getting first-hand feedback from someone that has been there is priceless! I don't have any skids, but I am capable of fabbing up a set of sliders... just not sure I want to head down this old familiar path with this CRD.

We may use the CRD to tow the wife's '49 down to the trailhead for the weekend. Our biggest concern is getting back to the ferry crossing in time on Sunday after the trail has been run. We both have to be back to work Monday morning and if you miss the last ferry it adds 2 hours to the drive home.

:juggle: :juggle:

Again, thank you!

agree that the landscape here is great but actually the wheeling is extremely limited, only a few countries are allowing driving on a dirt road... for instance, totally forbiden where i live (Switzerland). still possible to some extend in France.
We are planning a trip in Scandinavia (Sweden, Finland) where most of secondary roads are still unpaved...and fantastic lanscapes.

...on my side, planning to send the Libbie in a container to LA for a 3 weeks vacation in the US next year.... :pepper: still lots of things to fix since then...

Updated page 1 with pictures from UPOverland 2015 outing. Keweenaw and Copper Country was beautiful. Definitely on my list for further exploration. I suffered a little self inflicted body damage.
