so I have been planning to put a hitch on the wife's KJ to be able to use a hitch haul cargo carrier to help with gear and luggage on our trips.

however; I am wondering if this is doable or not with the rear spare.

has anyone run a cargo carrier in the hitch with the spare tire not interfering?

thanks!

If you have a gangster spare you'll need the extension they sell.

lol, he means when you upgrade to a larger tire..

Here is a custom made one. It's not mine, I borrowed it from someone who made it specifically for the Liberty.

You could get it extended so it will fit. I have a Thule Full Swing hitch mounted bike rack and brought it to a shop to have a guy add about 6" (or more can't recall) so it would clear the arm. He also welded shims to the section that fits inside the receiver so that the rack has virtually zero movement which means no rattling. For added measure I use a J-Pin Stabilization Pin and Barrel Lockset to clamp everything down - the link is below.
Finally, if you haven't put a hitch on yet the Draw-Tite extends about 2" past the bumper where as the Hidden Hitch is directly below or even an inch or two before the bumper.

That J-pin is a great idea. I might have to drill a hole in my hitch.

Once I get my RL rear bumper installed, then I’ll know what type of hitch haul I’m looking for. The RL built-in receiver is higher compared to the OE hitch receiver.

I use a hitch mounted bike rack and have to use an extension so it will clear the tire. I could only get a 12" one at harbor freight. It sticks out the back way more than needed like that. I didn't know where I could find a different and shorter extension. anyone know?

I've ran mine with the RL bumper, had to modify it with a 3 lb hammer but it works :ROTFL:

We use one of those hitch mounted cargo carriers with the addition of a 12 inch
receiver extension to clear the spare tire. I thought I had another photo of it loaded,
guess not!
