Today was a work on the jeep day. Got my new t-stat a few days ago and figured i would tackle that after i figured out where my fuel leak was.

I have noticed for about the last 8 months if i fill it to where the pump kicks off, or to where i like to fill it (where you can see it in the spout) I have had a large puddle under the jeep at the pump. So lately i have only been filling it to just before the pump kicks. Anyway a while ago i had thought the vent that follows the filler spout was the culprit. I had slide it up farther and recliped the clamp that holds it to the filler tube. That was not the problem, fast forward to today. I had ran it down to less than 20 miles left on the EVIC planning on dropping the tank but when i got it up on the ramps and crawled under it i noticed a whitish plastic cap sticking out from the top of the tank right where the sending unit sits. I looked closer and noticed it had grime on it like it had fuel on it and caught road dirt. And it just happened to be on the rear and drivers side of the tank where i traced the fuel running down from when i would fill it. I pulled the vent and noticed i could pass air both ways through it (not sure if its supposed to be one way or not) So i got 5 feet of 3/8ths hose and a 90 deg elbow. Put the elbow where the vent was and added the extra hose to it and ran it up into the gas cap area, i drilled a hole and stuck it and the vent next to the cap. Now Since that was so much higher than the vent that runs with the filler hose, i added about another 8" to that and stuffed it way up in the cap area (did not drill a hole just left it behind the cap).

I then started on the t-stat. It really wasn't as hard as i had expected it to be. Pulled the airbox, and CAC hose, and started pulling off the water lines. The hardest part was getting the bolts out and back in without loosing them in no mans land around the exhaust manifold. I took one of those siphon things (sold with kero heaters) and sucked all of the reservoir empty Then the only hose with a real clamp on it (other than the rad. hose) I pulled and stuck the suction end of the siphon and pumped it out until i pretty much filled a 1gal container. Doing it this way i lost VERY little coolant. I didn't even have any run out when i popped off the T-stat.

Fired it up filled the coolant, and took it for a drive to the fill station. Temp ran just about a needle width under the middle mark, and when i filled the tank i could see it in the spout and didn't have a puddle of fuel under the jeep :)

Now see if i get any better MPG's after the t-stat and fuel fix as i'm sure it was leaking some while driving even after i filled it.
