First off this whole story involves my Jeep...

I was on my way to pick up two baby birds that my friend found at her work. On my way to the restaurant there was an older Jeep XJ that stalled in the middle of the road, cause the Jeep ran out of gas. He was trying to get off the highway by trying to drive up a road that was a hill. I noticed he was kind of...ehh...well anyways. I got out asked what was wrong and once I found out that he just ran out of gas I said, "I can tow you down to the gas station." So I got out my D-Ring hitch and tow strap, hooked up to his stinger bumper and towed him down to the gas station that wasn't even a quarter mile away. I would say a little over a football field away? I don't know the exact distance. So pulling him I had the Jeep in 4low in first gear (Jeep is an automatic). I knew that 4low is a lower gear ratio and having the Jeep in first gear would keep me going at a slower speed, which I wanted. I told the guy to watch how close he got to my Jeep so he wouldn't hit it. Something in the back of my mind told me not to use 4low and first gear to tow him to the gas station, but I was going on what little I knew about towing. I have never pulled anything like that with my Jeep before and I doubt the Jeep has even pulled a trailer before I had it. This was the first time towing a vehicle with my Jeep and it so happen to be a Jeep! I was so stoked that I was helping another Jeep. Yes I admit I may have tow the Jeep the wrong way and I knew as soon as I was on my way home lights would come on. Sure enough they did, 3 of them. Here is a picture of what I'm seeing...

The light on the left cluster says "ESP BAS"; the light in the middle is a vehicle with tire tracks (trac control I think); the light on the right cluster says "ABS" (anti-lock brake light).
On the way home, the Jeep drove fine. Althought I did think I smelt something burning, but not sure if it was the Jeep or not. I had my neighbor look at it and he said he might of heard something trying to go into gear when you have the Jeep reving. He cycled through all the gears and the 4WD system. The lights still wouldn't go off. We both think it's a thing where the Jeep will eventually reset itself.

What do you all think?

Yahhh, never use 4wd, especially not 4lo on dry (even wet) pavement.

It can be related to a lot of things.

My experience with those lights always had to do with my Rack & Pinion.

But I would definitely get it checked out by a professional, there's no CEL, so I'm not sure if it will show a code.

It wasn't like a hour...Maybe 5 minutes?

We all learn from our mistakes...right?

I've used 4wd on wet roads when it was really bad. (My town doesn't have awesome drainage systems, so it tends to collect on the road). Other than that, I've used 4wd very little.
Rack and pinion go out at 65,000 miles? Hmm, kind of early. But with a mistake like I've made guess it could Man, I feel like and idiot! I knew I should have listen to that little voice inside my head that said "DON'T USE 4LO!"
I will go to Jeep tomorrow morning to ask them about it. They fixed my last problem for free.

Is your TPMS light going off randomly too? Weird.

Edit: I have never used 4wd on dry pavement though.

It's not one light, it's 3 of them!
As long as my Jeep drives fine and it's nothing serious. Then I'm okay.
If it's something bad or a problem than will eventually develop into something bad; well I'm fine with parking the Jeep in the garage and driving my sister's 4cyl. car until it can be fixed. Well off to Jeep in the morning. I can see it now, the front desk guy (in the service bay) asking, "What did you do now?"

Yes, the ABS light, the traction control light, and the ESP/BAS light. I am having the same issue, plus the TPMS light going of randomly. Please post up after your meeting with the dealership with any info. I would greatly appreciate it.

First I'll be making a trip to O'Reillys to see my buddy there. He might be able to reset the computer for me. If he can't do anything, then I'll go to the dealership. Does your KJ drive fine with all those lights on it?
Maybe the Jeep is mad cause I haven't taken it off-road (good) in 7 months
So it decides to act ugly

After researching the problem with my Jeep, I've decided to go to the dealership. But first stop at O'Reillys to have them run the computer on it. For all I know, the computer on the Jeep may need to be reset. Or something came loose when towing that Jeep. Did I mention that I had to go down a hill with it?

I'll DEFINATELY keep you posted on what the dealership&auto parts store say and/or do. So you can get the same problem fixed and relay the info back to the other 3 with the same problem.

EDIT: Read something else on the net that it might be one of the wheel senors. Already had two of them replaced in the first year of owning the Jeep. This problem might make it my 3rd and maybe 4th wheel senors to be replaced. Whether it be the back 2 or whatever...

I would check all your fuses first. Those are the lights that go off when i pull the J6 fuse on my KK to disable the esp intentionally. Maybe also try disconnecting the battery for a while.

Why do these check lights remind me of the speed sensor wires rubbing on the parking brake line till failure. I'd look there. (Above rear diff)

You've been scolded enough about 4WD on pavement. I'll just say, sometimes it's better to trust your gut.

I just got up. After I clean up, I'm going to Jeep to have them look at it. I thought of the same thing, fuses.

Okay I will go check it now. Like I said above, after I clean up it's off to O'Reillys and Jeep. Don't worry, I have two more people that will scold me for my idiot mistake; one at O'Reillys and the other at the dealership. You can scold me to, I don't care. Already have X amount of times on here.

Next time I will trust my gut. I was caught up in the moment, that I wasn't thinking right. Whew! Jitters gone, next time I'll do better. I promise!

If it is the wires don't let them talk you into a completely new harness. The connector with lead wires is available and it's easy to install yourself.

Sometimes I think you need a mentor to text/call before you do stuff. When I first started wrenching my uncles would get calls from me. Doing trans work on Grumpy last week I called a rebuilder I used for tips. We all need help sometimes.

So I checked where you said: I saw what looked to be the brake line running across the rear axle, but in the upper right corner where the rear diff is, the brake line is touching something else that runs towards the front of the Jeep. It looks to be that's normal ( )
There was another spot on the left side of the rear diff where looked to be two rubber hose (maybe) barely touching each other. AHHHH!.....

Sometimes, I wish I had someone to call in emergencies like this.
Oh and my gut feeling is telling me to go to Jeep first. So Jeep dealership it is!

Maybe remove the positive battery cable,touch to ground for 30 sec.
reconnect cable
turn ign. switch on-no start
turn headlights on
turn headlights off
turn key off
computer,etc. is now reset, drive and see if maybe the events of yesterday just caused a little confusion.

BIG NEWS: UPDATE ON JEEP

Okay, so this morning I went to O'Reilly's to see my buddy there to get the code. It was the C101F code under the Chrysler ABS. It may have been CF101, I forgot. (The shop has my note car with the code and list of problems for it) Went to the Jeep dealership in town so they could type the code in the computer and it brought up four things that could be wrong:
-Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor
-Wheel Bearing (something about it being defective/wearing out)
-ABS Module
-and something else about another sensor
I went to my mechanic in town for them to look at it. My buddy at O'Reillys reset the computer I suppose cause the lights went away. I suppose it's legal to do that here in Kentucky cause if it wasn't, he wouldn't have done it. As I was leaving O'Reillys parking lot, I noticed the Jeep sort of catching on something and pulling. I sat at the light by O'Reillys to go to Jeep and pulling out on to the highway, the Jeep felt like it was going to stall. Something was grabbing up around the front. It scared the crap out of me, so I drove slow and made the short drive down to Jeep. I was almost to Jeep when the Jeep acted up again. The Jeep sort of jerked and stalled then those same three lights (ESP/BAS, skidding car and ABS) came on. Left Jeep and went to see my mechanic in town. He didn't agree with the wheel bearing or the other sensor thing; said that there is no way a computer could pick something like that up. The only two he agreed with were the ABS module and the right front wheel speed sensor. They hooked up there computer to it and it wouldn't read my ABS stuff for some reason. I explained what I experienced from O'Reillys all the way to Jeep. I got a call from them around 3:20ish. He said they finally got there computer to read the ABS and had the computer reset. They drove it and the samething that happen to me from O'Reillys to Jeep happen to them. Turns out it was the right front wheel speed sensor. I am going back to the shop in the morning to talk to them about it. I'll keep everyone posted.

IN THE MEANTIME...THOSE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME SHOULD GO TO THEIR LOCAL AUTO-PART'S STORE AND SEE IF THE SAME CODE COMES UP UNDER THE CHRYSLER ABS THING. THEN GO TO THE JEEP DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM LOOK THE CODE UP IN THEIR COMPUTER. IF YOUR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR IS BAD, IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU DON'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM SOON, YOU RUN THE CHANCE OF YOUR WHEEL LOCKING UP AND WRECKING. THAT WOULD SUCK IF YOU WE'RE GOING 60MPH DOWN THE HWY or GOING DOWN AN INTERSTATE DOING WHATEVER SPEED. THIS WILL MAKE THE THIRD WHEEL SENSOR THAT HAS WENT OUT ON ME.
