Of course your RPMs are lower, and also the reason for the poor gas mileage, go to 4.10s and mileage will go back up, motor will run cooler and like I said way better gas mileage, you're lugging the motor too much now

Tom,
What can one expect to pay for a 4.10 swap? Parts and Labor. Sorry didn't mean to hijack the thread...but am curious and since the discussion went there. thanks

Sorry not Tom but expect to pay between $1200-$1800 for the gear swap alone. The front is big $$$ since you got about 5-6 hours of labor to remove the diff just to swap in the gears.Add more $$$ for any locker/LSD you want, good time to swap them in as there is no extra charge really,ARB's might add some $$$'s due to drilling the diff housing for the air line and routing airlines and such.

I have a Daystar 2.5" lift and run 245/75/16 BFG KM2s...I get around 15mpg highway and no idea what city is but I know it's pretty bad. Doesn't matter, I still love my Jeep and will continue to drive it if gas ever reaches $5.
When I ran Toyo Open Country ATs (same size) with my lift, my mpgs were a little bit better not much though.
So when buying tires for your newly lifted Jeep, take in consideration that MTs will bring down your mpgs more but ATs help it a little.
My new lift will consist of OME springs+clevis lift+extra rear isos and I'm going to run 265/70/16 or 245/75/16 ATs (probably General Grabber AT2s). Haven't decided on an offical tire size yet. I really want to re-gear my Jeep but that can wait til next year. No lockers for me though. :JEEPIN:

1200-1800 for the rear? Wow thats pricey. Granted it takes some knowledge but the rear should be pretty easy. Ill probably do a steel d30 and do a DTT + 4.10 before it goes in and just swap it in as there is no way in hell Im having somebody else wrench that much on my jeep.

I must admit Im curious as to how the d30 will be swapping the parts in when I get the funds as I have never replaced a carrier and gear in an independent setup. Should be a fun weekend worth of work. Im also assuming a DTT comes with an assortment of shims.

For both front and rear. The lockers/LSD's do not come with any shims, and you will need a case spreader for the D30A.

Location: Hinesville, GA... nice lil quaint town...
I have to say the only thing i really didn't like about my libby was the finnicky tranny ( didn't have the 45rfe) other than that and the fact that the front diff crapped out on me on the road in 2wd while making a turn (still trying to figure out why that happened) and i didn't really have the money to replace it at the time so i took it to a vw dealership and they gave me 7 grand for it lol i guess i was lucky... (matter of fact the front d-shaft was not even in the libby when the diff blew) bought my wrangler the same day, but i honestly look back about every other day and say man i miss my libby!!! lol

Oh well that's not too bad then. I'm not putting any investment past fluid changes for the d30a. Maybe if I ship 4.10s and a dtt to jba they will install it in a steel d30. Not hard to swap parts in, but honestly for the d30 it might be worth it to have it done as like I said I've never done a non solid axle before.

I'm freaking dying for for an SFA swap! I am currently trying to convince my wife that it's worth the 15k. She gave me the finger.

It will be mine....oh yes....it will be mine.
