We are new owners of a CRD Liberty and need the think to the future - specifically finding a shop or mechanic who is familiar with the diesel engine. Does anyone have recommendations for the Atlanta area or Chattanooga? (we're in the Cartersville area).

Tia,

Sorry have not checked the section in a while. Try Dan (dgeist) our webmaster. He is an oil-burner (CRD) driver from Marietta. See what he says.

In case anybody else asks...

He probably didn't want to go on record as recommending anyone in particular (-- forum admin - feel free to delete this post if it's inappropriate.)

Mentioned was Brown's Auto in Chamblee- they've hired quite a few of the Mopar certified techs when Chrysler downsized their service departments. I got the impression that they aren't necessarily CRD experts, but do run a good independent Mopar service shop.

We own two diesel VW Beetles -- next time I have either of them into our VW shop for service (not a dealer), I'm going to see if they are open to working on other diesel vehicles.

If anyone has other ideas, I'm all ears.

I am the mod for this group, and since I was the one who asked...

That is good to know for all. I recently moved back to Atlanta (Clarkston actually) from Athens, and needed to know the same.

I own a '07 (gasser) Jetta as well as my KJ. Any good recommendations on a non-dealer for that was well?

Anybody else?

We've been using VW Technology on Airport Industrial Drive / Marietta, right across the driveway from Jim Ellis VW Dealership. http://www.vw-technology.com

The owner, Orlando, was a mechanic from across the street, and opened his own shop. They do good, reliable work.

I've also used a couple of Delta Airline mechanics who work out of their house/garage, but not for something I need done within certain hours.

Interesting thought, but no, I feel free to recommend anyone I see fit. I'm a volunteer, so there's no financial liability associated with administrative status as far as I can tell :)

I do tend to avoid posting things I don't want to see cached on google, though...

I have had Brown's work on my CRD and am happy with the level of service and prices.
First time I took my CRD there they knew what it was!!
Have seen a few Sprinter vans being serviced there, too.

I don't suppose they did a CRD timing belt for you? I'm looking to have one of the other forum members do mine, but he's a busy fellow and if I need it in a pinch, I'd love to know if anyone's had a belt done (professionally) and have it be done correctly.

Dan

We had ours done by the diesel tech at Robert Loehr Jeep in Cartersville. He came highly recommended by two other places.

No, bought mine at 107k miles with fresh timing belt. I would trust them to do mine in addition to Geordi on our forum.
