Best way is drill a hole and use a grommet with silicone.
Check this thread for some pictures.

Some people also take the plastic "rail" off that goes on top of where the front doors rubber weather stripping is, and run the wires down the strip and run it through the open door, but some people get leaks that way.

Not sure how you would get leaks that way if done right, mines been that way for over a year now and never leaked, nice clean install and no drilling.
Mine runs down the right side and then under the wiper cowl and across to the battery area

although there's nothing like drilling big old holes :ROTFL:

Yes, you are correct, if you go into the engine compartment, you will have no leaks.

I've read that some people had the wire coming across the weather stripping coming into the cabin, in this situation the weather stripping doesn't make a proper seal, allowing water to enter the Jeep.

i'm drilling a hole in mine and using a grommet crazy glued in place and some silicone... as a suggestion i'd make w.e. your wiring up top a quick disconnect so if you ever need to remove it it dont need to remove the wiring in the roof

Did this also but mine runs down the driver side.

If you remove the outer half of the front clam shell of your stock roof rails, you can drill a 1/2" hole
directly into the passenger cabin. Drill a matching 1/2' hole in the middle of the inner half of the clam shell
and you have an excellent path for routing wires to the interior. :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:

Just seal both holes with silicone after you've finished wiring. (Black silicone blends well)

The best part, if done correctly you have only a couple of inches of wire exposed wire from the basket to the rail.
Everything else is hidden from prying eyes.

I've done this on my own Jeep, as well as another forum members Liberty, and the result is a very clean install.

I really did mean to take pictures........ :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Maybe I'll pop the clam shells off this weekend an snap a few quick photos........

I've posted this like a billion times but if no using it were people, the search function would be China.

If it were my Jeep and I didn't want to go all ghetto, I'd remove a rail drill into the roof under a mounting foot (drop the headliner first), drill into the foot so the holes line up, re-mount the rail, drill into the plastic mounting bolt cover on the rail and rout the wires. If you drill only as big and to need and use snap grommets and silicone to seal the holes after the wire is routed, you should have no leaks since there's no direct path into the cab.

I do acknowledge that ghetto is what some are going for so choose the best method for you.

Essentially, my install does exactly this without the need to remove the rail.
One hole drilled between the mounting bolts into the cab (headliner removal isn't necessary if you're careful.),
another as a pass thru to the basket. A little silicone around the wires in both locations as a precaution,
and the "ghetto" look is avoided. :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:
