The CEL came on yesterday, had Advance Auto scan it today.
Code: PO 401, insufficient EGR flow. Looks like it's time to clean
the EGR out. Is there tubing that could be plugged? I'm not looking
forward to tearing the EGR off.

I do have an extended warranty with $100 deductible ,not sure
the local dealership knows anything about these Libbys......

She runs and drives like normal, no other issues......

STAY AWAY FROM THE DEALER!

They know NOTHING about the CRD, despite any protestations to the contrary they might make.

The EGR failure is a well known problem, that they are as likely as not to tell you... YOU get to pay for it. Unless you have a burning need to watch your engine rot to death on its own soot, feel free to ignore this code.

There is a modification called the "ORM" or Off Road Mod which will cost you nothing, other than watching that idiot light be on. You do it by unplugging the MAF sensor on top of the airbox (on the tube) and leave it off. The MAF is not needed to operate the engine, it is only used by the computer to regulate the use of that stupid EGR.

For a more permanent solution (that does cost money) look at getting an engine tune from Green Diesel Engineering and / or an SEGR device. Either will take care of this problem, without polluting the engine any further. The EGR function is NOT needed on a diesel, all it does do is re-introduce abrasive soot into the engine which clogs the oil and scours the cylinder walls, reducing economy and engine life.

The EGR device itself on our engines is really badly designed, with ports that are too small and electrically actuated, so it clogs up constantly.

Thanks guys....
The light went out yesterday. If it happens again, I'll
take the EGR apart and soak it in solvent to clean it. I cleaned
the MAP about a year ago, it's still clean, maybe the EGR
will stay cleaner after a good soaking.......
