I bumped into the salesnan who sold my CRD today (yes, this does happen in small town America). We talked for a few minutes and I asked lhim why I have never seen a CRD ad. He said it was because of engine availability. He said that the '05s were alloted to the dealers via some formula that DCX came up with and inittially it was thought that the number sent would "be enough" (my dealer got 10). He said that DCX then had to send more as most dealers sold out and some of the engines projected to go into '06s actually went into later '05s. In fact, he said that the first few orders they took for '06s had a wait time of 5 months until delivery. The dealership is scheduled to get 2 dropped shipped in April, but 1 is already sold.

He stated that he was told that DCX did not anticipate the demand for diesels so Motori was not ready to produce so many for the US market. So, after a long story, that is why Jeep does not have ads for the CRD as they would be unable to fill more orders for the US/Canada market.

Anyway, that is what he said, for what its worth.

Also explains why they are not rolling them out in other models. The dealer I bought mine from had 13 on the lot-- they would trade other dealers for them and keep them stocked up. I can see why they did that, smart move on their part. You would think the asinine diesel prices would have slowed sales though. I am plesantly suprised that they are still moving so well. The reactionary response to 3.00 gas sold a bunch of these CRD's in 05 to people who would have never bought a diesel otherwise, but to see them still selling in 06 is a good sign.

You can use Biodiesel in a CRD. Thats why we bought ours. :) Nothing to do with prices of gas or diesel...

Yeah, the potential of Bio-D is one reason I bought the CRD too. I was basing my remarks on the comments of the sales crew at the dealer. When the gas spiked at 3.00, people were not happy and were marching in that day to trade their SUV's for CRD's. The dealer was quickly sold out and back ordered. They said it slowed almost to a halt when diesel prices became seriously inverted over the gas. Guess they are moving once again, regardless of price. That is a good sign.

Local dealer got 6 CRD's a couple of weeks ago, they have two left as yesterday. They don't seem to need the add's around these parts.
