Okay so who sells SEGR's or can help me build one? Is there a link someone can post here? Been running the ORM and EHM. Tried the Eco Tune but didn't like it. Now I'd like to get this dang CEL turned off!

PS... yes I did a search for SEGR and got tired of surfing through 199 pages of people talking about it.

If you use the search function for "segr" and limit it to this forum and then narrow the results based on "sale" you can find some for sale although I did not note any recent entries. The SEGR builders thread is at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=23033&hilit=segr+sale&start=20 and there is an illustrated install thread at viewtopic.php?f=98&t=27359

Yeah, well good luck with that mod..... many have taken that route when the tune wasn't available and found that it brought down the resale value of their rigs.

When I was searching for my liberty, there was one available with mods like boost, temp and oil gauges on the dash and something called a SEGR. It was located in the next state over. I went to look at it and the owner said that he had modified the wiring so that the engine ran better. The wires were labeled very nicely but it looked like an abortion to the harness, it was like an absess.

I asked if the dealer would know how to work on the vehicle if he had to locate a wiring fault and if he had an electrical plan of the modification.... he said that he could explain the mod to the mechanic if need be or he can direct me to a web site online where a post explains how to do it with a schematic.

I passed on this one.

Hhuummmm....

Well, I am not sure what to say, just because there was one guy who (in your opinion) did a "hack job" to the SEGR upgrade, and you "passed" on that vehicle, please don't discredit the SEGR mod. At least the guy was honest with you and told you he had put the SEGR on the vehicle.

Can you verify who, and how much that mod "brought down" their resale value? :dizzy:

You also asked if the dealer would know how to work on the wiring? Do you realize that the GDE flash you have most likely would send the stealership into a full blown seizure? You also added a "flow-through-lift-pump" that should bring down the "resale value" because it isn't "stock," no?

Besides, not everyone has $450+ bucks to slap down on a GDE tune. A $70 SEGR kit that helps "fix" a typical Chrysler screw-up may be their only solution.

Just my :2cents:

I too would like to know what you didn't like about the ECO-tune.

I am interested in building/buying a SEGR kit as well. Is it time to "resurrect" that thread? My first degree was as an EE but that was long ago. However, one never really looses soldering/bread-boarding skills.

The dealer worked on my CRD knowing about the GDE, it didn't effect the DRB11 or drb111 from reading codes and it isn't visible and can easily be brought back to stock via PC.

When making a sale, visibility and keeping things stock on a car are key... a butchered harness doesn't sit well with most buyers.

You also added a "flow-through-lift-pump" that should bring down the "resale value" because it isn't "stock," no?

No, because I can remove it from the vehicle in a few minutes and bring the vehicle back to stock if the new buyer doesn't want it, it's in the engine compartment.

Besides, not everyone has $450+ bucks to slap down on a GDE tune. A $70 SEGR kit that helps "fix" a typical Chrysler screw-up may be their only solution.

Now, I can understand that, especially during these tough times, one must do what one must do.

I'd also like to know what you didn't like about the Eco Tune? I've been thinking seriously about getting it in the near future. Did you revert to the stock tune?

I purchased the ecotune unlimited to shut off my CEL and for the increased fuel economy. Unfortunately for me it gave me worse fuel economy and an erratic idle. I know, I know, EVERYBODY gets better fuel economy with the Ecotune... except me. Yes I had Keith reflash it back to stock for me and customer service was stellar to say the least. Unfortunately, since the reflash back to stock, the liberty has returned to its old self of ultra-reliable towing and hill climbing with great pre-ecotune fuel economy. SO... now I need to find another way to shut of this dang CEL!

Papaindigo- your link basically forwards me to the 199 pages of ranting that I'm trying to avoid. I have no interest in taking courses in electrical engineering to design and build a SEGR. I'm looking for one that's ready to install with instructions. But thanks for the effort.

I am going to pony up for the eco tune this spring. I think it will take about 5 minutes to pull my SEGR and no one will be able to tell it was ever there. The jeep went to the dealer twice before the warranty went out and they never noticed the SEGR was there. It came out a long time before GDE appeared and a couple folks on here worked hard to design and build the kits. Just because one dude was a hack electrician when he put it in his Jeep I don't think the SEGR deserves to get pissed on.

Any time you do any mods you risk resale value. I don't trust other people's mech skills. You should have seen the wiring on my 72 commando. It looked like trailer wiring that had been drug down the highway a hundred miles. The PO must have used 17 rolls of cheap elec tape and about a 1000 of those little blue pinch wire splices, and about 50 places the wires were just twisted together. First thing I did was pull all of it and replace it with a painless harness.

That said, I would have been glad to trade you my SEGR for your eco tune. Get him to flash it back and send it to me. I won't be pulling it till spring otherwise, but you are welcome to it then.

If I don't get one between now and then I'll take it. That'll give you time to take some pics and document the install for me. I'm very meticulous about work myself so it'll be good to know how you did it. I can't view pics on this forum for some reason so an email would be appreciated. PM me and I'll give you my email address.

Still got a few...

As a quick recap... The SEGR basically emulates the egr valve
so the ecm thinks it is still modulating it while in reality it is
100% closed 100% of the time. At the same time the FCV is 100% open
100% of the time with the only exception being when the vehicle is
placed in neutral or park when the ecm is given back control of the
FCV to aid in a smooth engine shut down. The signal from the MAF is
also modified so that when the ecm trys to make a change in the EGR
valve postion, the ECM sees the expected change in the MAF signal. The
kits also include a jumper plug so that if you ever wanted to go back
to factory settings you could unplug the SEGR and do so. There is no
plug and play connector. You have to solder it in your wiring harness.

The kits in unassembled form are 100.00 or 105.00 paypal.
The kits in assembled form are 275.00 or 288.75 paypal.

Take your time when installing. There is a good reason why it says to use solder and heat shrink - NO TAPE! There is also another good reason why the SEGR uses a connector - NO Hacking if you want to put it back to the way it was before. Just install the simple jumper plug with 3 wires.

Sorry to hear that someone hacked your wiring but if you could buddy-up with someone that does know how to solder and run wires, it could be easily fixed in less than 1/2 hour. Wiring diagrams are posted and others will send you what you need. 9 wires, that's all.

I don't see how this could change the value if wired correctly.

Okay so are there 3 wires or 9? and where am I supposed to connect these wires? Am I supposed to tie into them or cut and replace with the SEGR wires? How long would it take me, a wiring basket case, to install?

Maybe I should just ignore the CEL for all eternity... :banghead:

Is there someone interested in taking a free salmon fising trip in Oregon in exchange for installation of the SEGR?

9 wires for new install. 3 wires are for bypass plug ( if you want to disable SEGR and return to factory shape )
