In regards to checking brake fluid, you suppose to measure the dissolved copper content in the fluid. When the level is sufficiently high, it's time change it out. You can get the test strips from your local autoparts store.

Most people would not take the time to do this, but this is the prefered way of doing it. it is just easier to tell them to to look at the color of the fluid. Most cars I haev seen, th efluid is just black with a heavy sludge at the bottom.

I would love to see nascar turn their truck series into an all diesel powered series. Get some brand identy back to the sport.
Pug did well sweeping lemans last year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they both take what they learn from their diesels and apply them to their production cars.
Maybe you can answer me this.
How do the diesel teams refuel so quock without foam up?

Don't know how long one would get out of them though for the street.

If the OP wants to know what the best brakes are and they could purchase and money was not an issue, I would recommend Mov'It in Germany. Thye will custom make you a set of 355mm for the front and a set of 328mm for the rear for around $11,000 plus shipping. A friend of mine and I have driven his car, has this setup on his 1999 Camaro SS set up for the Nuerburgring and Hockenheimring as well as the autobahn. The car at the track stops like it has a 500lb anchor on it and at 180mph stops like a LeMans race car. When it is hot out and the brakes are hot, it makes all kinds of noise when stopping.

I have learned a ton from this thread. I've said nothing because I know nothing. Thanks for the info on the types of brakes. I was indeed interested in drilled and slotted rotors. I don't know if salt roads for 6 months out of the year negate any of this though. I may just have ANY rotor rust out from under me in no time. When I began typing my post, I was upset at what I thought were crap brakes from a company I once trusted. Then I began to realize that I may have actually gotten ok miles from my setup. I have been thinking that my biggest problem with brakes is that when my wife drives any of our cars, she pretty much drives WOT until about two feet from the stop light/sign. She really seems to think of the two things at her feet as stop and go and that's it. I'm not a racer. I have an old CJ for off road. The Liberty is for transportation and pulling my pop-up five times a year, and getting home safe in Michigan winters with snow and slush on the ground. I love the rig. I just want the brakes to hold up. Custom brakes for $11k sounds like the way to go for me if find a money tree. I like the cryo rotors and pads and I like the idea of cheap pads on good rotors. The guy at the auto store was surprised at the types of pads their store offered. He didn't think they were that great. Dust has never been a problem. My rims are clean always.

I'm going next week to have the brakes looked at. I'll research the companies I learned about here and see if they are going to work out.

Thanks again guys.

Glad to have helped. This is the reason I read forums, to learn about what I do not understand. I replace everything while I have it apart kind of guy, so my repairs are a little more costly. Glad you are willing to research on your own.

I have the EBC slotted and dimpled rotors (and green stuff pads). I originally went to order slotted only, but the delivery time didn't suit the timing of when I was going to do the installation. The slotted + dimpled was what they had available, so I got those instead. Living in MI as well, I haven't noticed an appreciable effect from the salted roads on the brakes. I have a little over 40K miles on mine. The stopping power was significantly increased over the OEM brakes/pads. I will say there are times they seem to be slightly warped and they seem to take care of themselves after a couple of heat cycles as they won't feel warped when I use them later on. I previously had a '96 Chevy Corsica that loved rotors...needed a new set every 30K miles because it managed to warp the bejesus out of them.

Some great info on brakes & rotors here. :SOMBRERO:
I have been using Wearever Gold Brake Pads & Wearever Brake Rotors from Advance Auto. I think this has been pretty cost effective for average driving, occasional hauling a utility trailer, & winter road salt. :JEEPIN:

I got 84k out of my original rotors and pads. I replaced the rotors w/ OEM and Hawk Performace LTS pads http://hawkperformance.com/truck/lts.php Super happy w/ this setup - CRD is a daily driver for the wife and I use it to tow a 3,000 lb trailer a few hundred miles 5 or 6 times/year.
