ok wasnt sure if i needed to pull tail light out and thru bolt

You do need to pull the tail light to run the antenna cable into the Jeep.
Very easy, undo the two torx screws then pull the tail light out (they snap in place).

did you check your swr ?

check the mount ground to body (there should be one)

hook your swr meter up between your cb and your coax, coax goes to the ANT side of the meter, cb goes to the other

don't perform these tests near obstructions like the side of your house or a metal structure, best to go to like.. Walmart parking lot or something to do this away from large objects

get in your jeep and close the door, turn your CB to CH 1

turn your SWR meter to FWD

hold the mic like you would if you were going to say something while driving, main part about this is that the mic is the same distance from the radio for all testing roughly

key the mic and turn the set knob on the swr meter until the needle reaches full

now turn the SWR meter to REF

do all of this without releasing the mic ptt

write down the number you get for ch 1

now turn it to CH 40 and push the mic again - with mic same distance from radio as before

write this number down

you want both numbers as close to 1:1 as you can get them

if your SWR is higher on CH 40 than it is on CH 1 , your antenna is too LONG
if your SWR is higher on CH 1 than it is on CH 40, your antenna is too SHORT

antennas with adjustable tips can be loosened with an allen key and lengthened or shortened

make sure to reinstall the weather cap on the tip after every adjustment

retest after adjustment until you're satisfied with your readings

if you get numbers on 1 and 40 that are between 1.1 and 1.2 and there's very little difference, then there's not much you can do to change your SWR through the tip tuning

location of the antenna on the vehicle plays a large role in how good your SWR can be

1.5:1 is acceptable, 2:1 is damaging

if you're running a really short antenna and get high values, .. 1.4 on ch 1 and ch 40 , try ch 20, shortie antennas are usually narrow banded and work best in the middle your swr may be much less in the middle in which case you'd want to stick to the middle channels , say .. 10 through 30

hope that helped
