i was just joshin around tryin to find a definitive answer for what makes a grocery getter :P

here's how i've seen it over the years

square headlights = grocery getter
IFS = grocery getter
no 4low = grocery getter
"if it's not like mine" = grocery getter
"if it's not what I personally like" = grocery getter

you can see where the line gets fuzzy.. somewhere between the O and N of OpinioN
;)

Also, have you guys running these tires ever loaded the vehicle with cargo? Id think any heavy loads and your gonna be rubbing those fender liners right out

lots of ppl run a narrower tire, it's the flip side of wide tire flotation, narrow track pressure traction, some feller whos a real big deal swears by it

lot of ice tires are narrow and tall, as well as tractor tires made for high/deep bite rather than flotation bite are narrow

I wish that was my grandma! She's awesome.

As far as grocery getters go... Mine sure as heck isn't a grocery getter it only gets driven 1 or 2 days per week. That's what the 94 Ranger is for. :D

But wouldn't the extra weight for going to E load MORE than offset the contact patch?

I get 18.5. Not the best I've heard, but not bad.

My Liberty is a grocery getter, but has been off-roading. Does this disqualify it as a mall crawler?
I have deep scratches for proof!

Yes.

And the handling will suffer greatly also, even in a load range "E".Also braking will suffer so not the best choice.

Yeah?
Stock 225/75: section width: 8.8 tread width: 6 Height: 29.3
215/85 duratrac: section width: 8.5 tread width: 7 height: 30.4

How could that possibly make handling and braking suffer greatly? I have noticed no difference. If there tires were not good, I would not tell people to get them, and I would get 245/70s.

LOL

Whats funny is that Jeeps are pretty much meant to be lifted. Sounds like this guy has an unjustified chip on his shoulder. Good luck with all that

i thought i would put of ol onthe fire since i was passing by.
I actually build a small xls table which gives you the exact diameter and radius and moreover the "offset" of a tire.
I think that the offset is the dimension that really tells if a tires will rub or not... :banghead:
i defined the offset by the diagonal , blue line on the drawing that reperesent a view of the tires from the front (or rear)

Image

As you see, a 215-85 R16 has the same offest that stock tires ==> No rubbing
But it is 0.7 inch (1.8 cm) higher in radius ==> 0.7 inch lift....

...but you know what? i still think the option of ridding on high and narrow tires (to avoid the rubbing) is ...crap....stability must be bad and if the tire is slightly soft....then it is even worst.... :jester: I am pretty sure that people racing invented low cut tires for a reason... :seuss:

by the way, let me know if i can put the xls document on the site. it is quite usefull. i will make an inch version for you guys..
