The idea of letting any dealer monkey go on a fishing expedition scares the crap out of me... The one thing they seem to ALWAYS find is the bottom of the victim's wallet.

A couple cans of spray engine cleaner applied down there might help the search. Wash all that oil off then have someone else start the motor while you look around with the flashlight. Its not a great idea if it is spraying around down there... But from what you describe it shouldn't be hard to locate a leak like that!

Then at least you can tell them exactly what is leaking, and not let them come back with any cock-and-bull nonsense of "ya needs a new turbo b/c the return line is missing a fetzer plug adapter" or similar BS.

Good to hear your turbo is in good shape!
I will be checking mine out again shortly and maybe even ask Keith from GDE (he's not far from me) to look at it and get his opinion. I really don't want to wait too long and have something that could have been avoided happen!

You can't fix the turbo pressure line when it start leaking. It must be replaced or good bye engine if you run out of oil. I has same leak, see link:

Well not much help for ge OP but I did speak with Keith and he said it's normal for the turbos, even te new ones he gets for his upgrade kits will have a few thousandths shaft play both side to side and in/out. Good to hear from someone like Keith (super cool of him to help people out for the hell of it) who deals with out crazy jeeps everyday!

For those of you that don't have a couple grand laying around, I will be happy to rebuild anyone's turbo for $450 including return shipping.

Well, it turns out the problem was the high pressure line on top of the turbo. The tech said he suspected it was the lower return line, but could see no reason for or source of the leak when he started it up. But the leakage around the fitting on the turbo was obvious when he went up top for a looksee. They think they've secured the only replacement available in the Denver warehouse, and it is supposed to arrive tomorrow. Fingers crossed and with any luck I'll be back on the road tomorrow evening.

Excellent news! Remind them (Just in case) that they need to put a fresh copper washer around the banjo bolt, top AND bottom.

Sometimes the more forgetful among us might not have done that and made a bit of a mess...

Oopsie.

Well, picked up the Jeep a couple hours ago. Ran fine, no smell of burning oil. Took it to a car wash and put $5 into soap and water. Looks good as new and runs fine. Out dragged a semi to get onto I-70 and it runs strong as ever, at least up to 75 mph.

Lewis Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Hays, Kansas worked me into a busy schedule, got it diagnosed properly (not that they lacked hints and clues), and found a very tiny leak in the cooling system that I knew was there, somewhere, but only required putting in a quart of coolant every month or so. That was fixed by taking the heater hose off, cutting off an inch or so, and putting it back on. (hose was otherwise sound)

They also arranged a tow, and got me rides to and back from my campground 25 miles away. They tracked down what was evidently the last remaining oil line in the midwest and had it overnighted from Denver. I spoke to the tech who worked on it, and he seemed conscientious and knowledgeable. The price, while more than I'd hoped, was reasonable.

Thanks for a good review of a (sadly rare breed) good dealership experience! Glad you are back up and running again.
