Good morning KJ owners, i'm from Etecno1's R&D department www.etecno1.it, we're manufacturer of diesel glow plugs and under the pressing demand by Cherokee/Liberty 2.8CRD owners we've finally developed a new metal 7V glow plug to replace the original Bosch 80041 7V ceramic glow plug. The glow plug has been specifically designed to have a longer lifespan and be cheaper then the original one. Right now the first samples are ready for engine testing, they already successfully passed all preliminary laboratory test, but we need to make the fine tuning on the glow plug's speed, max temperature ecc..
I'm just wondering if someone reading this forum would accept to be a tester, we'll get rid of all shipping cost for the glow plugs and will be happy to add a new glow plugs set once the product will be released on the market (at this state we guess 4-5 months), free delivered at your address.
please contact me at my personal email address cristiano@etecno1.it

Thank you for your time.

You are in Brescia Italy?

Do you manufacture any other parts for the 2.8 Litre VM motor?

I would be interested.

Guys thank you very much for your involvement, i've got my email box overwhelmed in a few hours. Right now i guess i have enough testers, i'll answer the email and the replies left as soon as i have some more glow plugs to ship.
I'll keep you up to date with the results of this test, but we have a very good feeling about it, it will probably take some time for fine tuning, and maybe another public test but i guess we'll be ready before the end of the year.
Thanks to you all and to the forum admins who gave us this chance.
By the way we're in Parma, Italy, Brescia is pretty close only 100 kms away.
Regards.

Looks like this is going to end up the same as VW's experiment with 5V glow plugs - eventually ending up back at a 7V metal or metal-sheathed glow plug.

Check out tdiclub if you want to read about that saga - "fiasco" is about the only way to describe it.

Glad to hear there will be a 7V replacement plug after all, once I've went thru my two spare sets of Bosch ceramics. Might even go ahead and switch over if they prove to be more durable.

Interesting!

Cristian, does Etecno1 have a distribution point in North America? Your company seems to sport many automotive items of interest...

Ciao Cristian,

Have you talked yet to the people in VM yet since they're only approx 100-115km away in Cento? You might get the best interest and support from them being so close.
Would your replacement glow plugs come as a kit with a replacement glow control module, or the existing part would be kept?
What is the maximum temperature and gradient with your 7V metallic GLP?

Cristian, here's a glowplug related question for you -

Does anyone make a glowplug reamer, to remove the built up carbon inside the glowplug wells, for our engine?

Cristian, you might want to include an 'export model' tester and we have substantial numbers of KJ CRDs running around in this market (models stretching from the 2002/3 VM 2.5L CRDs right through the last KJ CRD builds of April 2007). Email sent.

I sent Cristian a PM telling him with your luck, you would be the best tester in the World. :)

Cute.

Actually, the glow plugs have been good performers for me, and I think I might be the only member on here with an AutoEnginuity scanner that can read and watch the plugs while they are active. Or at least while the computer is telling them to be active.

Yes i could picture Geordi as a fine glow plug beta tester. If the plug didn't break on the test run, he would try to find a way to break it on the second and chalk it up to research and development.

I received my test Glowplugs last week and will install them shortly. If anyone has a link to the removal and installation write up that would be great! Looking over the engine this weekend I can see they are not easy to access, I wanted to start spraying some loose nut on them to help encourage their removal. No such luck as I could barely see them :?
