OK, had a revelation today about the transfer case.

Seems that NVG241OR RocTracs are pretty hard to find right now. I talked to JB Conversions and they said the company that makes them is moving locations, inventory is zero, and they won't even quote lead time.

So, I'm thinking of a 2fer. That is, take the 241OR out of my JK Rubicon and put it in the Liberty, then put an Atlas in the JK Rubicon. Thus, for the price of 1 transfer case I get 2 upgrades. :pepper:

Also, an update on the overheating (maybe). Because my check engine light has been on I thought the GDE tune had somehow been wiped out. However, it turns out there was a break in the fuel temp sensor wire, which I have now repaired. Power seems much better now, so I am thinking the computer may have cut back the power since it was getting a fault code (I wondered why the power seemed to be lower). I am also wondering if this might have added to the overheating since the engine still had sufficient power to push 80mph+ highway speeds even under a "check engine" condition. Nevertheless, I am still proceeding with the Hayden fan clutch, improved fan, and more open exhaust.

Still seems there is some front end noise so taking into shop Monday to find problem. Sounds like low growling noise, so will check inside front diff and put electronic listening on transfer case.

Slowly getting there.

thanks for the help.

Have to trim a lot to install those on an unlifted 6 year old KJ

I really have no idea. I just did what i had to do to get the 33's on. I would refer you to tommudd's response and to the threads on tires.

I live in a hot and very dry climate so i have no worries about salt and corrosion, which made it any easy decision to get rid of all the lining in the wheel wells. If i was back in the midwest i might not have done this.

Since last writing, did the following:

Replaced front wheel hubs/bearings - this eliminated most of the noise & vibration I was experiencing, and I am hoping for an increase in fuel economy. Going to Moab for a couple of days next week :P , so I'll be able to check road mileage. There is still some noise/vibration from the passenger side CV :banghead: , but Marlin is sending me a new one, so hopefully that will make things perfectly smooth.

Also opened exhaust after CAT and replaced muffler with glass pack. Between wheel hubs, exhaust, and GDE Hot Tune, acceleration is awesome. Easily made 75 mph on uphill freeway on ramp. If only my JK had that kind of power :ALONE:

Hayden clutch fan with tow-package blade is going on this afternoon.

I will be pulling up the front carpet to add some sound dampening material under the carpet in an attempt to make an even quieter cabin. I will also be putting in a small windshield washer fluid bottle, using the stock pump (will attach photo when done).

That will wrap up the modifications for the time being. After I recuperate from the financial trauma of the last two months, I hope to take the RocTrac 4:1 transfer case out of my 2008 JK, replace it with an Atlas unit, and put the RocTrac on the Liberty. :juggle:

So in the mean time you do not have a working T-case?

Nice rig man. Question, after putting the snorkel on did it seem slower? I wanted one but was afraid it would slow the airflow up too much.

Got the original transfer case repaired, so i am operational. I am not in a big hurry, but hope to put the JK Rubicon tcase in the Liberty sometime this winter, or sooner if it breaks again.

I have the hayden fan clutch on now. Still heated up on long steep grades, but usually stabilized at 3/4. It was not stabilizing on its own before. Harder climbs were taking the gauge up to around 7/8, but then seemed to stabilize. Ambient temp 100 to 105+. I think i'll try changing GDE tune from hot tune to regular. Plenty of power, and maybe the less aggressive tune would help on the long grades. Even if nothing changes, i can live happily with the way it is now.

Am in Moab for a couple of days and going out on moderate trail tomorrow - maybe Kane Creek or Poison Spyder. Drive from my home to get here was mostly freeway at 75-80 mph and went smooth and well. It is about a 6 hour drive for me.

Snorkel did not seem to hurt or help performance, although i figure it acts as a CAI which should help more than hurt. I am mostly desert driving and so i also like an intake higher up where there is less dust. And of course, great for the occasional water fording.

What speed are you going when your temp climbs that high? I am guessing not the 75-80 mph

Yep, i set the cruise control at 2-3 mph over the limit and limit is 75 most of the way, and 80 in sections. The Liberty has sufficient power to pull all the grades at speed, typically only dropping 1-2 mph below cruise set.

Got to run Kane Creek today. Liberty did great, and there were some gnarly obstacles. Made one bad move and got stuck in a deep mud rut, but winched out quick and easy. This was my first time on this trail and it was more difficult than I expected. Very glad i had lockers. I've done most of the Moab trails before, and everything rated 7 or more, but always in my JK.

A few minor updates.

I still want to someday put my JK Rubicon transfer case in the KJ, but looks like I will be dreaming about that for the foreseeable future.

I also read that Dana 44 rear axles were put on some export KJ's and might be available. Does anyone know where and how to get these?

Dumping all of my money now into the JK. Busted a rear axle shaft (a superior no less), and after having now gone through 2 sets of 5:38 gears and this axle shaft I decided to bite the bullet and put the Teraflex 60 rear axle in. The JK is also going to need new tires soon and those 37 x 17's aint cheap.

The Liberty is mostly running well. Front left Fox shock lost its main seal, but Marlin is working with me to get that fixed. Seems to be a rare event so not too concerned about it.

Switched the GDE hot tune over to their EcoTune in the hopes of finally curing the occasional high-speed/steep-grade overheat issue. I haven't noticed any degradation in power, but since the weather has cooled off I can't really check the overheat situation.

Our clubs big annual event, Winter on the Rocks, is coming up soon. Come on out if you can. http://www.winterontherocks.com/

Any chance you could get some close ups of the fender trimming both front and back? Im looking to do the same thing to mine. for one it makes it looks a LOT better and lifted a lot higher, and 2 i need to get rid of the rubbing under full articulation/flex :ROTFL:
