Post subject: Some Quick Oil Change Interval Advise Please.

So many helpful and knowledgable people I can't help but ask about a situation mostly specific and unique.

I've got 8k miles on the CRD. I'm due for an oil change now as it's been 6250 miles and 5 months since I switched to the 5W-40 Rotella. I have a 1200 mile trip to make (total mileage) over the next 4 days. Background on the current oil - no less than 20 miles per engine run/start and 50% highway miles, topped off level last week with 3/4 of a quart fresh 5W-40 Rotella.

Would it help the break in to just leave the current oil in for another week and about 30 hours of engine time? Would it hurt anything? Does it even matter?

I'd leave the the existing oil in. I think with the Rotella you'd be good for 10,000 miles (it is in Volkswagen TDI's).

When you get back from your trip, why not perform an oil analysis on the Rotella? That would give you objective information that you could use to base future oil change intervals on.

I agree, the oil should be in real good shape and with that top off you did the additive package should also be in good shape. You need not worry as I have driven many miles in diesels using 10,000 mile oil changes without ever hurting an engine whether it be a cheap VW diesel or a rather expensive MB diesel.

FWIW from a non-CRD owner, I Agree with the above.
