Hi All,

I have just bought & installed JBA 4.5 (lifted) to my KJ and taken it for the necessary tracking. At the garage they attampted to do the tracking and camber, but at the end couldn't get my KJ into fully correct allignment.

this is the result below ( apologies for the poor quality of the picture):

Image

the garage told me after they finished, I am now worst off, they had opened the caster to the max, but it still wasn't enough. Please can you advise what I need to do next? The only benefit is that now the UCA isn't knocking against the front coils when I go over a bump and the shock fully extend.

At the front I have OME 790, NS131, Boiler top plate 3/8 & 2 cLevis nuts each side.

What do I need to do to get the LCA out to bring it all back into allignment?

Thank you,

Fil.

How long has your lift been on? Do you have the 2.5 or 2.8 CRD?

Lift has been on now about 5 month and I have done about 4K mls and I have CRD 2.5.

I was sitting at the front 22 inc, haven't measured yet after installing JBA.

If I remember right the 2.5 CRD is alot lighter then the 2.8 and since you do not have any heavy armor the 790 coils maybe to much for your KJ.Try taking the 3/8" upper plates off and the conduit nuts then hit some speed bumps real good. After that then try a alignment.

Camber is the more important # to worry about and you can sacrifice caster to get camber, but you do need some caster and 2-3 degrees is plenty when lifted with bigger then stock tires. It is very important to get the cross caster in,no more then 0.5 degrees between the left/right side.

How do I get that? We have turned to the Max and won't turn any more? any suggestion...not really wanting to take Top plate and Clevis nuts out as that would lower and push out the Arms further the other way...wouldn't it?

If I understand it correctly the problem is with LCA not coming out enough? the KJ rides realy nice with finally no knocking noise from the front over bumps.

either take the top plate out, or the clevis, i've seen fresh 790s with one, or the other get a decent alignment but not both until the coils really get settled

removing one or the other will bring the LCA back up into a more level position and may get you the numbers you want

clevis is what i'd do, easy to R&R

Okay, I have booked the KJ in on Monday to have the 2 Clevis ring off, as I was speaking to the mechanic about it, he had a look at the Casters on the LCA to see it the were realy out to the Max and looking at them they don't look to be. So does anyone have photos I can compare with mine please to see if it's realy out to the MAX or not?

Tks,
Fil.

As you can see the fronts are turned out, while the rears are turned in.

Tony,
My front one are more like your, but the back one on the LCA are not, some how they look perpendicular and not inward!! That might be the problem then?!

See Photos (sorry for the poor quality did in a hurry now)
Back LCA Front Driver side from the back( remember my KJ is RHD)

I think they haven't been turned fully?!

not all alignment fellers are created equal

some are awesome and have few bad days
and some are still in some sorta learning cycle and ******* **** :)

it may just need to get another crack at the alignment, I know the poor kid at the place i went to spent 4 hrs on it, over the course of 6 hrs.. cause he was having trouble deciding whether or not the steering wheel was straight

which, it still isn't straight..

maybe next time right?

Hi,
the garage that fitted the lift is going to have a go at it before they they take out the Clevis rings. If they manage to open it more and all looks good/better they will leave the Clevis otherwise they come out. Hopefully then we will be good to go.

whats your height from the center of the wheel to the flare? im at 22inches all around on my CRD with a frankenlift 2, 1/4 JBA upper plate and 3 clevis rings in front. Plus two upper isolators in the rear. mines perfect at this height. any higher and i think i'd have issues hence why im curious as to where your at.

Hi
I did measure after fitting the JBA arms again and I am sitting at 22 in still.

At the front I have:
3/8 Boiler Top plate
790 OME Colis
NS131
2 Clevis Nuts each side.

I personally think I might have more room to move the Caster out, on Monday the Mechanic that fitted the suspention will have a go at moving them, if he can get more movent the Clevis nuts stay otherwise out the come and I will go again to be re measure to see where I am.

Hi,

Well looks like my LCA bushes have ceazed up and that is the reason it's not possible to open then up more. So for the time being Clevis nuts are out and I will be shortly ordering new Bushes for the lower arms. I guess I should have expected that on an 8yr old KJ as we do get a lot of salt on the roads here. Once I have replace the bushes, then I will go and get a new tracking done, hopefully it should all be good then.

Hi

After changing all 4 LCA Bushes & new bolds, I took the KJ back to have the tracking & Camber done, here are the results:

Image
Sorry for the poor quality of the image.
The Garage said that for the front left they couldn't move the Caster more in as it would have thrown out the Camber out more. Any opinions?
I now drives a lot better than before and a funny vibration I had from day one of fitting the lift has now disappeared.

Hi,
Sorry to bring up an old post, but tomorrow I am taking my KJ to have the trancking done again. After having changed tyres and rotated them after 5000 mls, the new bushes changed now over 7000 mls, it's time to do it again.

As you can see from my previous post I was still well out, I hope my suspention has settled a bit and I can get into the right parameters.
I know I am currently sitting at 22 inc at the front and I have Boiler 3/8 top plates and 790 & NS 131 OME front, but the clevis rings have gone.

I did receive an Email from Jeeping by All that I should manage to get my tracking in these parameters:

Caster: 3.9 +0.5 range 3.4 to +4.4

Camber: -0.375 + 0.375 range -.0750 to 0

Total Toe in .2 + 0.125 range +0.075 to +0.325

Do you think it's achievable? as you can see from my prevoius post I am no where close to it.

Fil.

funny enough mine somehow got knocked out of alignment and has a boatload of positive camber, so now i've been wearing down the outside edges of my front tires as i havent been able to stop anyplace yet. I still have no idea why mine suddenly went out of alignment though.
