On another thread, someone posted a link to yourcovers.com , a company called PML that makes aftermarket differential covers, deep tranny pans, and valve covers. Main point of the tranny pans and diff covers is that they add extra oil capacity and are fitted with threaded drain plugs.

One of the questions concerning the diff cover (Dodge 8.25" axle on their website) was whether or not there was room to fit one on the CRD, especially with the factory fuel tank skid plate installed.

Dimensional drawing on their website shows the depth of their diff cover to be 4", from the gasket surface on the diff housing to it's back side.

My CRD has the fuel tank skid plate installed. Based on what I measured, even with a 4" deep diff cover, there will still be approximately 1 1/2" of clearance between the diff cover and the fuel tank skid plate on average. By way of comparison, the main part of the factory diff cover extends back 3" from the gasket surface.

One question I haven't resolved yet is the location of the fill hole on the PML cover versus where it's located on the factory cover. If you look at the bolt pattern, there are 3 bolts on top, 3 on the bottom, and 2 on each side, 10 bolts total. According to PML, the bottom lip of the fill hole on their cover is 1/2" above the lower side bolt, measured from the center of the bolt. I still need to compare this against the location of the fill hole on the factory cover, to ensure that it would allow filling to the proper oil level.

As far as PML's deep tranny pan (Dodge 545 RFE), if you have skid plates installed, you'd have to choose between having your tranny skid plate installed or having the tranny pan. Their tranny pan is 4 3/4" deep, again from the gasket surface on the tranny to it's bottom side. With the factory skid plate installed, there's less than 4 1/2" between the gasket surface and the top of the skid plate. And the way the skid plate is constructed and hooks into the front crossmember, you can't add spacers and lower it.

Keep us posted about the diff cover Mitch. I would be interested in one of those I do believe.

I will definately go this route. It would have to snow here in July before I would spend $250 to get axles serviced by the dealer. The Summit Autoracing store is about 3 miles away, intend to check there first. They usually have creative solutions for issues like this along with all kinds of really neat toys.

Checked at Summit Racing today, they don't sell a drainable cover for the Chrysler 8.25 axle. Clerk at the service counter said to order it from PML.

There are places that have a better price than PML for a $20 savings. Not much but you can get a good hamberger for that. I need to order mine now because as soon as my CRD gets broken in I need to change the diff fluid and I only want to do it once.

Wondering if anyone bought the PML diff cover yet, how well it fit or worth the money? I look to do my 12K stuff in about a month and want to start collecting parts.

I have tried to Google PML but come up with nothing. Where do you get one and how much do they cost?

Since PML is the only aftermarket deep transmission pan and it is to deep. I wonder what other steel pans are available from DC that are of higher capacity? You would figure the 1 ton trucks would have a bigger pan. Or the 2500 or the Grand Cherokee.

I have not been able to find a parts site that has pictures/ exploded views of the parts.

Any help in getting me toi such a site would be appriciated

Has anyone here installed the PML rear differential cover as yet? I am getting ready to order one tomorrow and was just wondering what was your opinion of the product. I'm a little over 8000 miles on the Liberty and need to get the cover in the mail, and was just wondering if anyone had done the mod as yet.

No, but I vote for you to be the resident guinea pig on this project. I am going to do the TransGo 45RFE-HD2 trans reprogramming kit hopefully in the next two weeks and will post the results.

The JLL goes in tomorrow morning for the latest flash upgrade and will post the results.

I will be next in line (pushing 12,000 miles), let me know how it works. Right now I would just be happy to get my Jeep back to do the job. Drove by the dealer today (Sunday/closed) and it is atleast parked outside where they usually leave stuff that is done. Hopefully a good sign.

Old Navy, just saw this thread, changed out the transfer case and front differential today, put synthetic back in, my usual
change out on a new vehicle. If they say it will fit, let me know, we can have the UPS trucks race to see which one arrives first. :)
No guts no glory.

Actually kind of amused by the whole situation. It was working just fine when I took it in (other than one bad downshift). All this over a simple reflash. I bought the Jeep to run through the snow which is gone now and fortunately I have other cars to use so it's not too bad. Mentioned this today to my dad (Ret. Army Col.), got an earfull about messing with stuff that still works.

Used to be that way myself, but if they would design it right, you would not have to make it better.

We are both pretty much a long way from anywhere, nearest UPS air hub is 150 to 175 miles from here and then the nearest ground hub for UPS is 60 miles.

The wife is out shopping at the present so I may have to go check the money tree tomorrow before I order.

Hey there oldnavy, got the last in stock black rear differential cover they had, says
I might have it by this Friday, so did you get one ordered, or did I scoop ya. Made
arrangements if it does not fit, will take photos of them side by side for the fill levels.
Ordered from:
Brent Lottman
PML Inc.
800-335-4345
He will be watching this thread to see if he can add our Liberty's to his fit guide.
