Hello all, new Canadian to this forum & I have an issue perhaps someone may be able to help me with. Apologies in advance for the length of my question!

Purchased a 2008 Jeep Liberty Limited one year ago at 64,000KM (39,800Miles). It is now at 104,000KM (64,500Miles).

Last week I purchased new tires (Michelins) & had them installed by a reputable tire dealer in Ontario, Canada. While installing the new tires he noted my right, front tie rod was worn & required replacement. I asked the tire store to order the part & do the work, which they agreed to do two days later. After installation of tires the tire people told me to get an alignment (they were unable to do alignments that week, so asked me to go anywhere & get it done).

Later in the week, on a rainy, rainy day, I had the tie rod installed early in the morning then continued highway driving for the rest of the day. As soon as I hit the rainy highway & got up to speed the ESP/BAS warning light, as well as the TCS indicator lights came on & stayed on. These lights came on every time my vehicle hit highway speeds, whether dry or wet conditions. The lights stayed on until I turned off the vehicle.

Early the following week I went to a local Jeep dealer, NOT the one where I bought my vehicle. I requested an oil change & an alignment. I also described the issue I was having with the warning lights & asked them to investigate. After doing the work & checking out the Jeep, the service fellow tells me my Jeep was running very well, there were no issues they could detect EXCEPT my tow/haul/OD (they called it an overdrive/ tow/haul button) button was "broken" & required replacement to the tune of $377 + labour. This happened early last week & since the alignment I have not had the warning lights go on once, no matter my speed or weather conditions & the vehicle is driving just as always.

When I bought this used 2008 Jeep from a Jeep dealer last year I immediately noticed the tow/haul button just above my gear shifter & noted it did not function at all- it could not be pushed, it seemed stick. I attempted to clean it, thinking it got "glued" in place by coffee or soda, to no avail. When I went to the selling dealer for my first oil change, I asked the service fellow why my button didn't work. He IMMEDIATELY & CONFIDENTLY told me it did not "work" because my vehicle did not have the tow package so the button was not in use. I left it at that, satisfied all was well.

MY QUESTION (finally!!!)- What is going here? Who is telling me the truth about my tow/haul button- the selling dealer who says it is an inactive button, as I have no tow package or the other dealer who tells me my button is broken & needs replacement????

Mine did not come with the tow package and the tow/haul button works fine.

If no tow package that button only kicks the trans out of OD,if you have the tow package and it's programmed in it also activates the anti-sway junk.

The light show was due to the alignment being off and confusing the ESP from the steering wheel not being centered.

Thanks for the quick replies!!!!

If this is the case regarding the two/haul button, you would think I should have it fixed under warranty, correct?

The service tech @ the selling dealership clearly stated my tow/haul button shouldn't work just 5 weeks after purchase. My warranty expired at the 100,000KM mark, a month or so back, but this broken button has always been non-functioning since purchase & they told me it wasn;t an issue!

Well it really is not a issue and you went with it and never forced the issue so now out of warranty your kinda out of luck for a free fix.

Also from my understanding you had an alignment done after installing the tires,
then had the tie rod installed the following week.
Did you have another alignment done at that time?

No, that's incorrect. I had the new tires installed, then the tie rod 2 days later (that's when the warning lights started appearing). Finally, 4 days after the tie rod installation I had the alignment done.

Thanks again for all the help!
