If you're counting people for sales, I'd like a front bumper and a set of sliders. Eventually a rear bumper as well. You've done an awesome job as far as I can tell. Keep up the good work. :)

I've been waiting since late '08 to put on a real bumper and some armor! Keep me updated, the front bumper looks great! I'd like to do the back as well, but since I tow a camper with the factory hitch, I can't change the receiver height..

You can buy an adjustable hitch to accommodate any height that you need.

Are you still gonna make your stuff? It's by far some of the best looking aftermarket equipment I've seen and judging from some of the pictures you've posted, some of the most durable. I had a pocket full of cash in hope of a front bumper in the near future but sadly most of it had to be used elsewhere. I saw another thread where someone was making one but I really want yours. If you've decided not to manufacture your products please inform me either here or in a pm so that I can start looking at other options. Also, if you would be interested in selling a set of detailed plans I would be interested in that as well and I promise not to make any for anyone else without your written permission and appropriate compension. BTW your sliders seem superior to the competition as well.

Hello to Mr. Topic Starter!
Are you still in the project or should I start to find out something else? There is no news from you. I like everything including lamps covers and would order them.

Great thread, certainly well detailed so far. Well done on putting all the effort into making your KK what it is. Great to see someone who has the skills apply them to something they love...

Eagerly awaiting further news, but you can certainly put me down for Front & Sides, Rear to follow.

Great stuff well done again.

Yea, that's too bad. I think he did better quality work than alot of professional build shops. :(
On a better note, I contacted ARB and they may be building one for the kk mid 2012 but I like these more.

maybe mtnluvr sold his design to ARB

seems like a LOT of people are interested in these, and it would probably be pretty hard to keep up with all the orders flying in

Even I would be interested in 1, granted it'd probably take a while for me to save up lol.

I recall him saying that he was gonna take some time to enjoy his rig cause he was without it for so long while building his bumpers and stuff. Hopefully he'll be back at it come winter.

I congratulate you on all the effort put into this project. I know, we all know that the end item will be a hit.
I have read all posts starting at page 1 of course, and have not found how you will be taking orders once you start mass producing. I know that some members here have been following you since the beginning of your project, others like myself, only got lucky and found this site after many surfs. Do you have any idea how you are going to do the purchase requests???
Thanks for the feedback. Regarding purchase requests, it will depend upon if time permits throwing up a quick website or something to facilitate consolidated information. Communicaiton will be via email and phone.

I know this has to have been asked already, but I'll ask again.

Have you done any research regarding the modifications necessary (if any)
to mount one of your bumpers to a KJ??

I like the design ALLOT. Like you, I haven't found anything in the aftermarket
that I like. You're relatively close to me, and if only minor mods are required,
I'd definitely look into picking up a front bumper for my KJ.

Any thoughts??????
Not specifically, other than the front structure formed "frame" of the KK and KJ appear to be the same or at least very similar. Thanks for the feedback. I have to prioritize getting KK stuff to the point of priced and available for sale before ever considering KJ work although I know multiple KJ owners that have expressed an interest in me designing KJ bumpers.

No prob. I haven't yet started started selling these KK bumpers. Check this thread for updates. I feel your pain regarding needing KK off-road bumpers.

i know this is an old post but i just saw that front bumper and my jaw hit my chest. pretty sick man... you should get some patents for that and the rock sliders and start pitching the design to a few after market co's... prob make some good loot!  :2cents:
Thanks. From my experience interacting with all types of off-road, Jeep and even KJ aftermarket companies, none seemed to be interested in trying to serve the KK aftermarket with off-road armor. They feel like the demand is essentially non-existent. That's why I had to take matters into my own hands and design my own and pay a sizable amount to have them custom-built. Thanks for the feedback.

wow, just saw this thread. now I am wishing I had a KK! Love everything. If you can get those for a KJ, I would do whatever it takes to get them. Nailed the front bumper and the sliders.
Thanks. Yeah, I spent quite a bit of time figuring out the feature set and design criteria for the front bumper. I designed the bumper I wanted. The rear was my "quickie" design. Can't commit to anything for the KJs as heavy duty, well designed off-road armor for the KKs is my priority.

I feel ya on the pain of needing options and waiting. Stick with this thread for updates. You CAN change the rear receiver height, you just need a different Class III Receiver Hitch Ball Mount with a higher drop amount. Search Amazon.com or someplace for "receiver hitch drop mount" and you'll see what I mean and the options or variations available.

Thanks for the feedback. If I had fewer proverbial irons in the fire (or was retired and didn't have to work and travel so much), I'd love to just design modifications for my KK. My head is stuffed full of years worth of very detailed ideas....but only if there was time.....

Couple things to share for those that don't get out of the KK section....

Since my last major post (before the one immediately proceeding this), I took my KK on a 10-day road trip to Colorado and New Mexico. Full trip report of the 4wheeling part in Colorado from this past August can be found posted here. It was a wonderful trip and the KK and off-road armor did great. Below are just a few photo excerpts:

Got to use the winch to get me out of a predicament with my rear drive shaft sitting directly on a rock. Man, it is wonderful having an on-board winch! When winching, kskj's son said he was watching the front bumper wondering if something would flex but he advised there was absolutely no flex while winching. If only he'd asked me, I would've told him that is how it would perform.

Image
Tested out my Heavy Duty Rock Sliders (many times beyond just this one).

The KK and off-road armor continue to perform exceptionally in real off-roading.

For those that prefer my front winch bumper with the Basic Grill Guard Hoop, then below are a few shots for you. Full trip report from this past October can be found here.

Swapped from the Full-Width Brush Guard I run most of the time to the Basic Grill Guard Hoop:

Quick to change out the grill guard. I tend to spend time just looking around seeing how everything is holding up and checking all bolt torques. Also decided to not run the front license plate bracket while I was running the Basic Grill Guard Hoop.

Also got to fire up my winch a few more times:

Still runnin' the Basic Grill Guard Hoop. Really like that I can alter the appearance of the front of my KK so easily.

Ok, so to answer the big questions about why haven't I posted for a little while and what's going on....
Short answer, too much going on (and for higher priority personal items) to be able to come up with the time, specifically:

    1. 10-day Colorado & New Mexico Jeep Trip, including all the time to prepare and then resettle all the gear and the Jeep.
    2. Part of my 10-day Colorado trip was looking at some vacant mountain land. Long story short, I decided to purchase some vacant mountain property. Just closed on it recently. This has taken tons of time, including a second visit to the property short-list. As you can tell by my posts and designs, I'm thorough and detailed. I spent all available time in August researching and assessing survey information, water rights, mineral rights, mine surveys, wildfire protection plans, water well considerations, protective covenants, etc. plus analyzing regional sales to determine reasonable fair market price (which was less than listing price). After my offer was accepted, then it was spending all available time putting together the financing deal, getting an appraiser on board (as they all seem paranoid since the housing and finance market collapse starting in 2008), water well testing (which turned into quite the fiasco) and various loose ends.
    3. Midwestern Wheeling.
    4. Usual high-pressure work, including increased travel. A typical work-day for me at my "day job" is 11-12 hours and often a lot more during crunch issues and/or when traveling.
    5. Quick trip to Arizona to take care of some things.
    6. Some issues with another side business I have.
    7. Then there still has to be time for family and friends and even some personal down-time.

I'm not trying to make excuses but just trying to explain. I wish I was at the point of having this KK stuff already made in batches and being sold. I spend a lot of time thinking about it and continue to peck away at some of the prepatory tasks required to get this operation up and running. I still have some design / drawing tweaks I am going to make before I can get these out for bid to batch fabricators. With this mountain property purchase now behind me, I am optimistic that I should be able to come up with the time to work on getting my design tweaks made so I can get to the point of getting it out for bids. I apologize to anyone who has been frustrated and disappointed this hasn't happened as fast as either of us want but a person can only do so much. To those who wonder if they should explore another option, only you can make that decision for yourself.

I want to spend this winter turning some of the designs I have in my head for my next round of KK mods into reality but I don't want to start on that until I can get to the point of having batches of my KK armor built and being handled for sale.

Hope that all made sense. I'll continue to post updates of anything notable or any notable milestones.

In the interim, you can still be modifying your KKs just as I did before I designed my off-road armor. Improve lift, wheels, tires, interior ammenities, saving your money for major upgrades, etc.

Thank you all for your interest and kudos regarding my KK Off-Road Armor.
