I'm going to go look at this tomorrow. Is it worth it?
(craig's list ad deleted)

I'm going to need something to get me through the winter since there's no way I'm getting the KJ running now before springtime at the earliest. Any thing I should keep an eye out for or take a hard look at on this? He only wants $2500 and I'll try and get it for even less than that if I can. I'm going to try and get either Tommudd or BugginKJ to go with me if one or both are available.

Even with all the interior and exterior work to
"make it look good", at 250K on the odometer the
motor is gonna very tired.

I'd keep my offer at about $1200 - $1500.

I dont know too much about XJs, like the typical things to look out for, but I do know that that truck is a beast. The engine is a workhorse and it takes a lot to kill it. It would be great in this winter coming up.
But like Brad mentioned, definitely low-ball the guy.
Good luck!

GOT IT! Ended up paying $1900 for it. rockers are pretty rusted out, but those can be replaced. motor runs like a clock tho and it has a new transmission.

This will also allow me to wheel while still building up the KJ! I can also now go full tilt on the KJ and not worry a whole lot about it not being a DD machine! :JEEPIN:

Yeah, next step is a Ford, then the ultimate prize would be a Chevy :goink: :goink:

Not a bad buy Larry, lift/wheel probably worth as much as whole jeep.

Well we have been in, under, on top, in front, behind, crawled down in and back out, took things off and put things back, pulled things apart and forgot where we got them, even lubed Larry up err I mean his XJ , I forgot how many places there were to grease on one!
But other than leaving a spark plug wire off we did good!

Thanks Tom!!!!!!!

So after we checked it out, here's what we actually accomplished.
Lifted the hood, put it on 4 jackstands, pulled all 4 32x11.50/15 Cooper Discoverer STT tires on M/T 15x10 rims, checked the front brakes, greased all the fittings on the Skyjacker 4.5" suspension, greased up the JKS discos, hit the driveshafts with the grease gun while we were under there, ran the front diff breather up to the brake booster area, pulled the rear brakes apart and put them back together after Tom hit the drums with the scotchbrite pad (properly this time since someone had installed the drum brake pads backwards!), pulled and inspected at least one of the spark plugs, let's see .... what else? Planned out the projects on it for next summer  (cut out the rusty rockers and replace with square tubing and build sliders for it, boatside it, new skids  ), then checked all the brake, turn and headlights for proper operation .......... I guess that's it for the first 3 hour inspection!! Tomorrow I think we're going to try and bleed the brakes properly, change the plugs and wires and .......... who knows what else!!

All this just for a winter beater!!! :ROTFL:

that was what I was going to suggest when I read it had rusted rockers. Looks like a good deal and if like me you will love XJ's after this.
