I have the 1.5in OME springs and love them...but i want more :twisted:

Heres what im thinking

http://www.jeep4x4center.com/teraflex-1 ... 01208.html

cheap and id be willing to do it my self and/or with help.

but the thought occures...why not save money for a FULL lift..then again...they do cost more than ill save in a long time.

Id like to stick to the spacers i think because they are cheap and will work, but i CANT go above 1.5..or 1.75. Trying to stay above 3in so i dont cause damage to drive shaft.

suggestions?

If you want to do it , do it right from the get go, throwing those junk spacers in there will only give you problems.
Its been tried on the KJs a few times (mixing spring and spacer lifts) and it never ends well

Have you already done a clevis and top plate ? If not there is an inch or better right there

I have the rock krawler 3.5" never installed yet. Have a 2008 kk with 47000 miles. Do not do any aggressive offroading as its a daily driver. Will change shocks as well with lift. What is the clevis and plate you talk about? Is this something I should do as well?

This has been suggested but I just dont understand/know enough about it yet to do it. I dont want to pay my mechanic for another half stupid lift like i have in the past so, like you said Id like to do it right the first time.

Ive read the threads that try to explain it but my lack of mechanical knowledge prevents me from really grasping it. :banghead: Plus i dont have $500+ for the lift purchase, soooo...stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If you could, what plates would i need? IF i can do the clevis succesfully, id like to start gathereing the material for it.

at the same time i wonder if there is a way to fix the sag simutaniously?

Hello fellow Delawarian, Rusty's, JBA, Boiler sells top plates will give you 1/2 to 3/8" additional lift. They sit right on top of the strut assembly, easy install.

Remember everything you do in the front of a KJ/KK doubles the height you end up with.
So 1/4 inch extra gives you 1/2 inch of extra height
The lifts I do I use JBA 1/4 inch top plates so there is 1/2 inch , (Boilers are 3/8 of an inch so will get 3/4 lift)
now I also combine that with a 3/8 inch clevis for another 3/4 inch and you'll have 1.25 -1.50 inches of extra lift. Now you do have to pull the springs down out of course to install the top plate, clevis is easy to do just measure up from where the shock normally sits in the clevis 3/8 of an inch and tighten the bolt down.
Why are you still running the Daystar top plate by the way ?

I couldnt afford to get new front struts when i did the last round fo lift stuff. So i kept the top plate from the day star because it extends the stock struts down 2in allowing for the added height of my 1.5in lift with out doing un-do damage to the strut.

If i Do the Clevis im thinking ill probably have to replace them..which is crummy because I am having a hell of a time finding +2 or +3 in struts that arent part of a $$$$$ kit.

~~~~~~~~~~
I think i need to just get under the jeep and really figure out what the heck a clevis is :banghead: ..probably what my issue is with understanding this haha. Ive read the thread but just dont get it. Maybe ill conceede and get the top plates and beg my mechanic to not bendme over with the clevis lift.
Are these the same plates that i need for the back near the gas tank to mitigate the sag on the KKs?
All the clevis lift really is, is that you are putting a gap inbetween the bottom plate the bottom of the spring sits on and the fork that attaches just underneath it. You put the conduit nuts in there so that it fills the gap and the fork doesnt slip back up to its original position. The last picture in Diggers "Clevis lift how to" thread basically shows exactly what you are doing, although his "spacers" are already in there.
Stock length front shocks work, use the stock plate that came originally with your KK, and go from there
You still use stock LENGTH front shocks with lift springs. I almost skipped buying new shocks with my ome springs and glad i didn't. The bilstein f4-be5-d916-h0 are what i'm running and they are great.
For the rear you add extra spring isolators (2 per side).
UPDATED
Here is where i am so far.
-Looking like I will be able to get +1.5in front struts cheep from another forum member, them with the DayStar top plate will give enough strut length for off roading with out worry.
-Clevis lift for the front (adds 1in or 1.5in?..Need to know more exact lift height for the isolators. OR is the height entirely determined by my measurement when i do it? )
-Spring isolators for the rear..found at jeepin by Al
http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-Rear_coil_sp ... r-705.aspx
Am i on the right track herE? haha :SOMBRERO:
The top plates i was talking about are actually shims that go on top of the top plates (also called strut mounts) They are available in 1/4" and 3/8" thicknesses and will give 1/2" to 3/4" lift respectively. A 3/8" gapped clevis lift will give another 3/4" of front end lift. For the rear, you can add more spring isolators and get cheap lift that way. I recommend taking off your daystar top plates and going with the originals. I tried doing it and i don't think it puts enough preload tension on the springs.
It seems you're having a hard time understanding our suspension system. Maybe it wiuld be a good idea for you to pull a front wheel off and get familiar with it. Its really not that complicated. Look at some install instructions for both the kj/kk. The front suspension is the same, rear is a little different.
Thanks Atthehelm for the patients with me!
Regarding the top plate, I dont ave the originals any more. I think my mechanic dumped em after the first lift. Do you know the pat # so i can see if its worth ordering replacements?
I can't beleive your mechanic tossed them. They are about $100 to replace and a few companies beside mopar make them.
As for adding clevis lift or extra top plate shims... Judging by your pictures in the tech section it looks like you are lower than me with the same springs. I played with adding clevis lift and shims but put me too high and the upper control arms were hitting the springs, so be carefull in how much you add.
Rear isolators- two extras per side on top.
Hes not as tall since he is using the Daystar top plates he needs to find OEM ones
also where do you keep getting extra 1.5 inch longer front shocks :shock:
Wish you were closer I'd say drop it off and let me get it straightened out for ya :ROTFL:
Ok good, so i'm not crazy. When i switched from the ome with daystar plates to ome with oem plates i noticed i gained more height but still can't figure out how that works. :dizzy:
These are the front springs i have, advertised as 1.5in front lift.
I also wish i could find closer KK owners who are knowledgable. But it all slowly becomes clear and worth it.
So the daystar top plate hampers the lift of the front? When I look at them they look the same. No joke its lowering my lift?! :dizzy:
Hopefully this week ill be able to get slightly used OME front struts so that will help a bit im sure. Once I have them put on, I have a thought...
Can I use spring isolators in front and rear for say a 1/2 in of extra lift? not enough to cause issues with the UCA, but a little more to appease my lift-lust. Avoiding the clevis lift, I fear my lack of understanding would some how cause an issue. :banghead:
I know you mention these, will they work independent of the clevis lift? and are these what you mentioning? (See link)
Front: http://jeepinbyal.com/prod-BILSTEIN___H ... t-675.aspx
Down the road I will be doing an entire lift kit, EVERY THING included for a 4in, But thats $3,000.00 + so no go for now.
You just need the stock plates in front, OME springs good shocks whatever you choose, add in top plates from JeepinByAl/Boiler/Rustys where ever you choose a clevis lift of 3/8 inch and be done
You are chasing you tail here
I know I'm chasing my tail but as I got I'm hammering down my plan of action and gathering intel from you,significantly more experienced, owners/techs.
I'm also aware I'm probably rather annoying! Just bare with me :SOMBRERO: one day I'll understand.
Updated plan:
Oem top plates, from jeepin by al if I can find them.
Spring isolates for rear to add 1/2 in lift in rear.
IF I've understood all of this right the oem front top plate should give 1/4(ish) and I could use an isolator for the rest.
I don't think I will do the Clevis lift probably do to the cost at my mechanics shop. Money seems better saved for entire lift kit.
