I've shipped many things over seas. They typically spend several days at the Chicago sort facility. Also not all countries update tracking info once it leaves the US, so it may show Chicago for some time and then it shows up with no update.

The box I had go missing was bound for the UK too, and it went to customs in Miami... Then nothing further. According to the USPS people I spoke with trying to track mine down, nobody other than UPS / Fedex / DHL reports the tracking, and even though the Royal Mail might have tracking within the UK (Thanks Top Gear for that bit of knowledge) the USPS said that their systems weren't set up to pass the information back to the sending country's system once it entered the RM system, b/c the tracking numbers were different.

They also had no way of knowing if the RM would assign a new number once it entered their system, or who might be given that number. Seems like international shipments via the USPS exist on a ship-and-pray methodology. I'm not a fan, if only b/c of the potential for abuse by claiming it didn't arrive.

Good old Top Gear!

When things arrive in the UK from overseas that are being tracked, I get a letter from the Royal Mail telling me that its with customs, telling me how much I have to pay to the government, and giving me a code to track it.

Very impressive. Either customs / duty payments here aren't like in the UK, or I have never run afoul of them. Each time I have received something international, or sent to my sister while she was in France, it has gone right through to the destination without an undue delay. Two fat envelopes to France with low-value stuff in them arrived in about 8-10 days IIRC, no duty due.

If things are sent as personal gifts, then there is no duty (up to an allowance, but I don't know what that is). Anything bought seems to attract duty - except for books or publications, so I'm fine with Overland Journal but stuffed with my nylon fan from MOPAR. And you get charged twice - import duty on goods from outside the EU and then VAT at 20% on the combined price of the item AND import duty.

I know that several countries have an allowance for items purchased from overseas for personal use up to a certain value which obviously varies from country to country. UK is not one of those countries - we get taxed on everything. It's why the UK government hates us buying stuff like the ECOtune software; its done and delivered over the net from companies outside the country - they have no way to tax it, and no way to make it illegal. Fortunately (from my viewpoint) the number of people who buy that sort of thing is very small, and so not worth their while to make an issue out of it.

I only did 5 fill-ups without the ECO-Tuned ECM, but they averaged 21.55 mpg. In the following 82 fill-ups (for a total of 87 so far), I have burned an average of 23.6 mpg. So, I'm calling that a 2.05 mpg improvement.

Extrapolating the pre-ECO tune average above (understanding that is a small sample size to base an average off of, but better than pulling numbers out of thin air), I'd have alternately burned 1,419.4 gallons. With the ECO, I have burned about 1294.5 gallons. ECO tune has saved me 124.94 gallons of fuel.

I bought the Jeep in March of 2010. ECO-tune has saved me from burning an additional 124.94 gallons, which, based on *current* prices of $4.15/gallon (here in RI), equates to: $518 dollars in 2 years.

Oh, and for those of you that speak metric: I get 10L per 100km.

I hope this info helps you.

For me, that would (if getting the same economy which I'd say I do) result in saving of £684 (based on the currently cheapest price in my area. Defini :D tely a saving.

If you live in a seasonal climate using a limited number of fillups over a short time period does not give a good baseline. For example my March average mpg is 21.32 based on 18 March fillups over 7 years. My overall average is 22.81 based on 196 fillups over 7 years. I'm calling that a 1.5mpg improvement without any tune!

The scantool arrived this morning. We got back from Hamburg last night to find that the back door had been forced and we had been burgled. Nothing too much taken, but even so. I've spent the morning dealing with police, SoCO (CSI), the locksmith, and this afternoon dealing with the insurers and speaking to the loss adjusters - who I will see on Monday.

I'll do the tune when I've got a minute.

I ordered the Flash tuner and it was delivered via USPS. It was dispatched the same day as the order and took about twelve days to arrive in the UK. It was held by the Royal mail on our side for seven of them.! The tune went on no problem and the engine runs a lot smoother and no hesitation on acceleration. Keith at Green Diesel Tuning was very helpful making a few tweaks to the tune. The big one converting the Auto Ecu to run a manual gearbox. I cant thank them enough. I will be using their products again in the future.
