This is really bad news when it happens at 70 MPH. First some clunking sounds from the rear. Then when I step on the throttle its like the whole jeep feels like it gets shoved to the right by a gust of wind. After a correction in steering the steering wheel is turned 15 degrees to the left. The car drives true without pulling, just the steering wheel is crooked. Release the throttle and then a gust of wind to the left. And now the steering wheel is straight again. I believe this occurs as the rear axle changes angle. This is quite concerning when it happens in traffic.

So the question to LOST folks is: Fix or scrap?

This is the result of corrosion and not any sort of collision.

Yes. For all practical purposes it is like the LCA is loose or broken. Yes that is just rust.

yeah there's a recall going, but it's not for the chassis.. that's not corrosion to the LCA that's corrosion to the under carriage

that one's gonna cost ya

Wow, thats nasty
Yea that is not a good thing at all. Seen several old Toyota trucks in that condition or worse, never a Liberty.

Hate to be the one to say it but as rusty as the whole undercarriage looks I say you'll have a lot more issues as well before too long.
Washing them does wonders

Personally - I don't drive through the surf...... and Padre or Corpus - wash the undercarriage as soon as you can - too much salt in the air..

Hi guys!! I don't know if you remember me or not I was a member about 2 yrs ago & still loving my KJ with so many mods since! Anyway I think the same thing just happened to me...right where the lower control arm meets the frame rail, the frame rail is rusted through!! Still driveable for now but needs to get fixed ASAP!! I got a quote from a very reputable body shop locally and they said they would have to buy a new frame rail from Chrysler ($800!) plus 2 days of labor ($1800 total, wowza!) to go in through the interior floor, remove seats, and replace frame rail. So while it looks bad it is fixable!! THOUGHTS?

By the way...sorry I was gone so long!! :D

OP - is that just from driving through surf? Has it been a Texas car all it's life? Ever been exposed to road salt?

That's pretty insane. I guess they're are some people that never wash the underside of their jeep? Mine has areas of minor surface rust and it bothers me. Couldn't imagine if it looked like that.

For a good custom fab shop that wouldn't be hard to fix at all. Put some new mounts further towards the front of the jeep on the frame and put some adjustable long arm lower control arms on it. If that's rusted off I'd say you have some other serious issues.
