Does an iPhone count? I try to be a professional photographer or at least pretend to. Would be nice to have a fancy camera.

In my opinion, yes. A fancy camera is only a tool. Of course, some cameras do take better images than others, but ultimately it's the photographer's skill in composition and lighting that makes a professional looking photograph. I always used to laugh at the folks that would say "wow, your camera takes nice pictures". That would be the same as someone telling a chef that his pots and pans make nice meals.

couldn't have said it any better myself. A photographer makes a photo look good, not a camera. There's a lot more to technique and skill than the auto feature...i die a little inside when i see a bored housewife buy a canon rebel and call themselves a photographer.

I once met a man selling photos alongside the road of wild animals in Tanzania.
The man had no education above what would be 3rd grade here, he had some kind of old beat up camera that some guy from England had thrown away while on a Safari there.
He cleaned it up some he said and borrowed enough money to buy a roll of film.
I wish you could of seen the photos he had. They were some of the most incredible I have ever seen in my life, none of this computerized remakes/retouched BS that makes pictures look bad IMO!
He just had an eye for. I have one of his sunsets hanging at my wifes place over there.
You can give a high dollar camera to anyone but it takes that special "eye" to take a great picture
