Im trying to decide on a lift kit for my CRD. Today I met a gent here in the Phoenix area running a RRO Rock Father Deluxe kit on his CRD. The truck looked fantastic. It sat very tall and level. He told me he installed it himself and has had zero problems for some time.

So, I thought Id ask whether anyone else here is running one and what they thought of it. I know the negative issues some people have had with them. Im mostly interested in the kit itself, not the customer service issues with them.

Thanks.

Tom

That kit just comes with rear spacers and crappy rear shocks. You also dont need that look a like top mount that comes with it.
You can save some $$ by just buying some old man emu 790/948 spring/shock kit from jeepinbyal.com. Just get that and extended front teraflex bumpstops for the front and use hockey pucks for the rear bumpstops.

Well actually the kit comes with full length springs and old man emu long travel shocks! Funny how there are so many misconceptions with RRO.

Ok so your right a out rear springs, but they don't say what kind they are. The rear shocks are "rocky road engineered". To each his own, but i'd get the ome kit from jba and be done with it.

Look I appreciate the advice, that's why Im here. If you look further you'll see that you can select OME long travel shocks when you chose your kit.

Actually RRO does not even supply OME rear coils with those kits and doubt they even carry the OME N132L's as no part # is given.Ask glen what is the part # for the OME rear shocks, bet he states N132's.

They are shady, heck they sell the late '80's through early '90's GM fullsize IFS knockout tool claiming it's for the KJ.The KJ already has cam bolts installed.

You also wont have enough preload on the front spring with rro's setup. They are trying to do a daystar /frankenlift setup, but they are lacking one major component, the internal spring spacer.

After all the options you want, including a arms, it is the same price to go with a tried and true OME setup (the way ARB designed it to be) from JBA. Its your Jeep though, do what you think is best for it but that's my advice...

I've been running one for maybe 20k miles, though I'm swapping out the front end for a Frankenlift II day after tomorrow because of a heavy front bumper.

It's not true that the kit comes with rear spacers. They're full length rear springs and they sure look like OMEs. I have a set of OMEs in the garage and the coil count and cross sectional diameter as measured with a caliper is darned similar. Problem is you don't know for sure! It's true that the rear shocks (Skyjackers I think) aren't very good. I replaced mine immediately with Ranchos.

Uh, when I got mine it did not come with OME long travel shocks and I'm pretty sure that's still true.

That is an interesting point that never occured to me. It's true that this lift depends on a 9/16" top plate for a lot of the lift. The spring/strut assembly does not have much of a preload and as such extends a lot when unloaded, very close to the CV joint. A preloaded assembly isn't going to have as much of a length change when loaded / unloaded.

Other than the rear shock, this setup worked well for me. But now I'm going to replace the front with a Franky II. In ways a more versatile thing to do would be to use an OME HD strut and 790 spring with, say, a 3/8" top plate and some clevis washers. That's probably what I should have done. I'm expecting to need a 1/4" top plate or a clevis lift with the Franky. We'll see.

Atthehelm's comment about the preload really got me thinking. Maybe there is an advantage to the preloaded poly spacer setup.

Or could do what I did
:ROTFL:
Not sure why you would remove a good set of springs to install a Frankenlift and say you think you'll need a spacer
Need to rethink for a moment what you want

My springs and struts are fine, but they're medium duty and I have a new bumper. The MD setup works great on the street. Problem is the sag from the bumper weight affects my off-road ground clearance. I was going to add a clevis lift, but with the suspension unloaded the clevis is right up against the CV joint already.

I thought about copying your set-up, but wasn't sure what you're using for a top spacer. I should have asked. What I really want is a 4" lift, 4.56 gears and 32" tires. I know people run 32s with 4.10s like I have, but I can't give up that acceleration. Problem is I can't justify the expense of a re-gear so decided to stick in the 2.5 to 3" range. I probably didn't make the best decision, but what else is new!

The boss is calling me, bye.
