ok so all my life owning a jeep ment more then just owning a car. if you saw another jeep u would honk or wave if u saw a jeep stuck on the side of the road a fellow jeeper would help. this is how i use to view the jeep comunity befor i moved to south fl i would get a phone call from a frend saying this guys jeep is broken come to my hose we are gona try to get it back on the road and i would go. even after moved down here jeepers would help echother out but it seems not any more.

so im gussing some of you might be thinking what happend so here it is

yesterday was my day off and my mother-in-law who recently dislocated her sholder needed to run some errans so i said i would come help her. i drove to her house about 50 miles from mine and getting off the turnpike the jeep seeped to slide or jurk then i lost power steering so i limped to her house a few blocks away. as i drove slowly the chek engin light came on then the batery lite came on as i pulled into the drive way the temp gage started rising. as soon as i got it safly parked in i jumped out looked under the jeep expecting to see power searing fluid poring out instead i see my drive belt hanking still in tacked and it is only 6 moths. well i start calling some pepole form the local jeep club to see if any one has a trailer and can help me tow my jeep home i get responses from pepole asking for $200 wich is more then a tow truck would charge me from a guy who i once offered to tow his jeep home from 200 miles away when he broke down and he has gotten pissed one some one tryed to over charge him for a tow. now dont get me wrong i was willing to pay but that is to much i would have paid for his gas and somthing for his time but not 200 thats not what friends do or fellow jeepers do to eachother. i ended up upgraiding my AAA for less then $100 and got a "free tow" home but thats not the point jeepers are supose to help eachother out becouse thats what its about.

now pepole only care if u drive a wrangler on 35s and belong to the same club as them thats not what its soplse to be.

im realy hoping this is a south fl thing and not the rest of the world as my jeep sits at the micanics shop till he gets back on tuseday to see if the engin is fryed
im thinking i may part it out or sell it for scrap. if this is realy what the jeep comunity has come to i dont want to be part of it my jeep has always been my baby but owning a jeep use to be somthing more i hope it still dose thats why im posting this on a forum that is not local.

one more thing ill let all of you tell me if my engin is fryed is it worth replacing i did once think about putting a 4.7 in but not sure if its worth it. maby i should just scrap it and put it out of its missry

sorry to hear about your bad luck. up north here in ohio some local jeep guys helped me put my lift on for free. i never met them before i just told them i was interested in lifting so they gave me a shopping list and when i had the items they put it on. im sure if i had problems i could go to them for answers and they would be happy to help, as i would be happy to help them.

One bad apple doesn't mean the whole barrel is bad. Hopefully this was an isolated incident. I've wheeled with Wrangler clubs before, at their invitation, and they all have been more than accommodating, although typically amazed at what a modified "grocery getter" KJ can do. Just practice good karma....what goes around comes around, and practice the golden rule and try to treat even the jerks better than they do you.
On another note. If you don't have coolant in your oil and the heads aren't warped, this may be a good oportunity to work on your Jeep, if it needs it. There's nothing more satisfying than working on your ride, whatever it is. Remember the Jeepers mantra..."wheel it, break it, fix it, repeat". Good luck.

not all of us are like that. I pulled a local members jeep to the shop with my Jeep. It was a short tow and yeah I had to give up some of my time but I'd want someone to be willing to do that for me if I needed it. He did offer me a little cash for fuel that I wasn't going to accept but he insisted. I would have done it for nothing just to help another jeeper out just because i could do it that time.

We are not all like those folks the OP posted

King jeep I am not a mechanic, but if I can help with anything I'm about an hour away (of coarse without traffic) from you let me know!

Yes not all Jeepers are like you described. Those are just wanna be Jeepers is all
If you were up here there would be plenty of people to help you out.
Heck in my garage we have installed 21 lifts, done CVs/driveshafts/tune ups/ fluid changes/ skid installs well almost anything that can be done to a Jeep and no charge for any of it. Also have traveled 3 hours to help others install lifts etc.
So you need to find a like group of people and let the wannabes sit out by themselves

Heck, it doesn't even have to be a Jeep for me to help out. I've pulled chevy's, fords, hondas, and utility trucks out of snow banks, stopped my work van and changed an "old-timer's" tire, (Ok, I've actually changed MANY tires for strangers, including a couple with a boat in the middle of the arizona desert during a monsoon), and even driven complete strangers home when their vehicles were broken-down. ONE of these days, it's going to bite me in the backside, but I prefer to believe most people are basically good, and I NEVER accept $. (In fairness, I DON'T live in Chicago, or my outlook would probably be different - Some of the characters along the Dan Ryan can be a little scary, and I've been in a bus that was shot at around Alsip)

I prefer to believe that most jeepers are like that.

Oh, and if you're ever in Michigan, and see a blue Liberty with a folding boat on top at the side of the road, PLEASE prove me right. 8)

No offense to Floridians on this list but in my experience your bad results in seeking help from Florida Jeepers may have more to do with them being Floridians than with them owning Jeeps. I went to University of Miami my freshman year and I found many Floridians to be more interested in helping themselves than in helping others. Just my 2 cents... :2cents:

I drive Land Cruisers and a Jeep CRD (the wife's actually, but I love it) and I have found that blokes out west who are into 4 wheel driving are all similar - whether they drive Cruisers, Jeeps or Broncos - and will generally help out a fellow 'wheeler without hesitation. I hope you keep helping others when you are able and don't let this incident jade your view of 'wheelers or Jeepers.

Josh
