Hey guys,

Just wondering what are the signs of bad motor mounts?

Sometimes but not always and it's not consistent. When I come to a stop and take off from a stop, I will hear a mix between a clunk and a pop. It's kind of hard to explain. But that's the best I can do. All my u-joints are fine. I'm also throwing around the idea of a loose brake caliper. I just haven't had the chance to look into it.

If it feels like a boot in the booty, have you taken your driveshaft off and greased the yoke and splines? I was getting that boot in the booty feeling and found that suggestion. Seems to be fixed.

I have this exact thing going on. It sure feels the brakes caliper but I don't believe it is. I checked a couple days ago and from what I can tell its tight. Let me know if you or anyone finds out or knows, its driving me nuts.

No it doesn't feel like a boot in the booty. There isn't any jerking with this sound. But I will check that. Thanks

When my motor mounts were bad I could hear a heavy rattle at idle in gear with the A/C on. There were a variety of clunks going into gear. I recall at first thinking it was the brake calipers. It wasn't.

Thanks man, I'm thinking my symptoms may just be in the beginning stages. I forgot to add that mine when I shift into drive or reverse it has been getting rougher and def not like it was when I bought it. Looks like I will add that along with my tb change

Just had BOTH of my mounts replaced as part of my 100k service. Had a lot of clunking and rattling as well as a change in idle speed after hard stops. I figured it was motor mounts, and now that they are replaced I have no more clunks, perfect idle, etc. I heard a lot of people have problems with the hydro mounts wearing out early even in gassers, and the extra torque and shaking from our diesel would hasten their demise for sure.

Put your foot on the brake and put in in gear if your vibrations are worse in drive then it is your passenger side mount if it is worse in reverse it is you drivers side. The drives side is a pain the passenger is nice and easy but only buy crown parts if your going to do it yourself.

I just replaced my motor mounts this past weekend, it took me about 45 minutes, or would have if I didn't have to go to the store and get a universal joint for my ratchet... Both mounts were bad, and I transfered the heat shield from the old one to the new one. Take the air box out and the passenger side air hoses.. makes it much easier! Oh and cold engine, as noted in GDE's instructions.
The old mounts rattled when i shook them, new ones were solid. and the CRD idles much more quietly now.

i've got to figure out what is making the noise with the serpentine belt, hoping it's not the AC compressor clutch.

Well my noise looks like it was probably my right front drive shaft. It was very loose and destroyed. However, the list of parts and things to fix never seem to get shorter no matter how many I get done.

My bad engine mounts sounded like "loose change being rattled around" at idle. The sound would sort of phase in and out. When I got 'em replaced, the sound went away. They probably went bad about 45,000 miles. It was driving me CRAZY. :furious:

The thunk/clunk I heard when I took my foot off the brake when fully stopped in order to go again was fixed by greasing the driveshaft spline (layman's terms?) when my mechanic had the Jeep up and was rotating tires. Came back about 2,000 miles later. I've learned to live with that.

Don't buy the whole shaft if you don't need to. I purchased the kit to replace the gear near the transfer case, and it saved my a ton of money. It has worked well through one winter so far.
