Hey guys.....
I'm getting ready to order the parts for my timing belt change from Moparonline parts.com and they show a water pump adapter for $95.45. Is it necessarry to purchase this for changing the water pump or do I just need the water pump itself?

Thanks!

Jim

You do not need to buy the adapter that fastens onto the back of the pump unless you would be unlucky enough to break it
It is $550- $760, not $95.00 :dizzy:
Buy the water pump gasket that goes between the adapter and the pump though, If I remember right it wasn't included with the pump. The O-ring between the block and pump will come with the pump.
The illustration use to list another (larger 0-ring) which fits between the water pump back housing and the front assy. With it, you can replace only the front of pump like any other water pump that I have changed, cutting Remove/Replace time considerably.

Thanks for the reply. OUCH! Thats a bit of a price difference than the one quoted online. I did order the gasket and the o-ring for the water pump. Looks like I'll have an extra o-ring....o well thats ok.

Take a look at Sir Sam's write up on water pump replacement by removal and replacement of only the front 1/2 which is where all the moving parts are. Vast timesaver as WP bolts are nearly impossible to access.

Thanks for the replies and the link. Per Papaindigo's suggestion....I ordered the timing belt from Amazon.com for $73 a while back so I already have the belt itself. I ordered the water pump, tensioner pully, 2 idler pullies, WP o-ring, WP gasket, timing belt cover gasket, and the WP by-pass hose for $426 shipped.

It's linked off the advanced section of Sir Sam's NOOB guide thru a forum post. But the direct link is http://colorado4wheel.com/content/KJ_TB.html
