New to me 05

I've had it for about 2 weeks now. I put about a thousand miles on it and no problems yet.

Picked up the cage this afternoon.

a few things that are done by the P/O
GDE eco tune
CCV filter/drain
they are marked with tags in the engine bay, unsure what else has been done.
It seems like it was taken good care of and i'm happy with it so far

What's the mileage? I ask because of the critical need to have a new timing belt at 100K miles.

Nice Jeep. I like the dark Khaki. sounds like you have a great start on the mods for long life and reliability. you didn't say the mileage it had so be aware as said already the timing belt needs done around 100,000 miles. you may want to clean your MAP sensor and get a fumoto valve for the oil pan to put in for the next oil change, the hex key plug can be stripped out easy and the valve just makes oil changes so easy.

Congrats on your new ride. It sounds like the PO was knowledgeable and took good care of it. The above notes on the timing belt are important, btw.

Since it clearly has a trailer hitch, I think I'd also replace the fan clutch with the Hayden unit, it it hasn't already been done. If you tow anything in hot weather, the OEM fan clutch will let you down.

With the GDE ecotune, you are in good shape for many happy miles. I've gotten 34.7 mpg on the highway from mine, which is phenomenal for a 4300 lb aerodynamic brick, and beats a few economy cars too.

A hitch rack just like yours has been one of my best investments. I have hauled lawnmowers, rototillers, refridgerators, freezers, wood, camping coolers, and lots more on my hitch rack. It may look hoopy but I do take my weight to the limit on my rack.

Thanks! its got 97,xxx miles now i put about 1200 on it in the last week... i took a short video of the acceleration and random blabbering on the way home the other night. http://youtu.be/XeahiKKKqBw or http://www.youtube.com/user/JustRamIt91 i think the timing belt has been changed, i'm waiting on the service records to arrive with my other tag. theres a file folder the PO used to have he sent to go with the vehicle.

After I look at your video I think you need a little advice about the VM motori engine....Don't harmer it! He hates high RPM! This is a 4300lbs truck not a racing car! Having all that torque under your right foot is an amazing feeling but try to avoid the 3000+ rpm zone...Better stay under 2800rpm all the time to keep it away from expensive repair bills...

They have a good longevity record in London taxi :-)

You just need to keep it in his "comfort zone" like they do.... Well they got better fuel then us but it's another story... Since you got a GDE tune in it there is good chances the ex-owner already take care of many CRD "Bugs" and did some mod like Provent, Samco, Transgo, Euro TC and metal glow plug to name a few so take a look under the hood and enjoy owning the most powerfull Liberty ever produced

Thanks for the advice, ill check out that section too. what kind of damage do these engines get in the higher rpm? I'm coming from a larger diesel truck where rpm isn't a huge issue

Thanks one thing that sticks out is the spare tire bracket flip, i will be sure to do that as i will be towing this weekend.(no overdrive) Not sure if i want to go as far as the turbo upgrade, i'm happy with the eco tune right now. I would be to worried about breaking the trans. i've been thinking about a 5spd swap(very involved i know) but that wouldn't happen until i pay it off next summer. Then after i can put the power to the wheels i would think about the upgrade.

My mileage is hand calculated with trip meter and howmany gallons to top off, last tank i went about 450 miles and it took nearly 19 gallons. All city driving, i like how this thing spools in the lower rpms!

Reread the noob guild i'll be doing 1 or 2 additional things this weekend i believe. The intank cummins fuel pump sounds like an easy job so i would probably go that route vs an airdog or other expensive fuel pump. Also you mentioned a cat 2micron filter head, is that CAT as in the engine manufacturer? Does it flow better or filter better?

The speakers are a must fix...i found some kicker speakers out of the 2007 jeeps, will they pretty much bolt in? I know the amps for the tweeters are bolted to the back of the front speakers so just let it sit there behind the new speakers? maybe stuff them with batting to reduce vibration? i like the putty idea its probably to seal the speaker to the indoor baffle since the stock ones are larger. A sealed speaker box sounds better than a speaker just sitting there.
