2006 liberty crd blowing check engine light

hi so I have another crd (unrelated to my last thread) and it's blowing the CEL light on me.. :sad:

these are the codes I'm getting with my OBD Car Doctor app and kiwi bluetooth scanner
P1140 is always pending and only active once I start the car
P0401 starts pending after it runs a bit
any ideas? Thanks in advance

(things I tried: I cleaned the MAP sensor, and changed a bad gasket on the FCV/flow control valve I believe)

The intake throttle is failed on your CRD (P1140). This has an impact on how much EGR flow you can acheive and it may also be the reason for the insufficient EGR flow (p0401). The egr code could also be from a sticking valve or clogged EGR piping.

upon further research the P1140 code is for the flow control valve being stuck open, and I assume that it's stuck open because of the EGR code (assuming the egr valve is stuck closed) or should I assume they're both bad? is there any better assumptions to make?

by intake throttle you mean fvc right?

FCV and intake throttle are the same thing. FCV is a made up name by the technical geniuses at Chrysler.

so I pulled the intake throttle out today

and the butterfly on it felt stuck, so I replaced the whole thing, put it back, cleared the codes and no results

all codes are still there and reappeared, so I took everything out (egr related) and I took off the egr sensor

to the right in this picture, and it felt fine, but the valve on the left did feel a little stuck so I'm going to clean that and put it back tomorrow or Monday.. hopefully that's it..

That's a lot of work brother, I feel your pain having done those things myself as well.

I think 1140 is "failed open," which typically means the gearing (plastic) inside of them has been compromised. Since you have it out already you may want to (there is a company that does it, you just have to dig here) have it refurbished with the metal gears.

Best of luck to you, hopefully you don't have to replace them.

GDE ECO tune would fix that code as well, just so you know. That's what I finally ended up doing. It's a lot less work in the long run. It eliminates both the EGR and the "FCV" from the equation except under rare circumstances.

So today I cleaned the whole egr system and made sure the valve and sensor all move freely, cleaned it a bit and put it back, then I also borrowed a throttle body/fcv from my 2005 Liberty CRD and installed that. ran it a bit, cleared the codes, only to see them light back up again (P1140 being first) any ideas what else I can do?? It's killing me... could it be that the 2005 fcv is different from what the 2006 should have?

If P1140 is open circuit, I'd be checking the EGR and FCV with an ohm-meter to see if they're in fact electrically open. As I recall, the SEGR used a 10 Ohm resistor to fake out the ECM. If they appear to be intact, you may have a wiring issue. You can measure voltage at the EGR/FCM (I sometimes use straight pins to reach through the insulation while it's operating, to check with my DVM). You can also measure continuity back to the ECM.

If there's an electrical problem - clean won't help you.

Replace the EGR Valve or do a GDE (Or Comparable) tune.

so I got a new FCV off of this website: http://www.factorymoparparts.com/
cost around $350. replaced it myself cleared the codes and no more problems

could finally sell this bad boy. thank you lost jeeps! dont worry I have another jeep in progress that im keeping for myself
